Another series is facing uncertainty because of the recent Harvey Weinstein scandal. Deadline reports Showtime’s planned TV show Guantanamo may not move forward due to the producer’s involvement.
From Daniel Voll, the drama “focuses on the detainees held in the world’s most controversial prison, and those who defend and condemn them.” Currently, Oliver Stone is attached to direct the series, which was initially to be produced by The Weinstein Company.
After a series of articles accused Weinstein Company co-founder Harvey Weinstein of sexual harassment and assault, Stone declared he will leave Guantanamo if the production company is involved. Now, Showtime is “re-evaluating” their relationship with The Weinstein Co.
However, this doesn’t mean Guantanamo is completely cancelled. Showtime released a statement saying they are still waiting for scripts from Voll:
We are eagerly awaiting the scripts that Daniel Voll and his team are currently writing. The project is in development and has not been greenlit yet. We do not intend to move forward with the current configuration of the project and are exploring our options.”
What do you think? Are you familiar with the Harvey Weinstein scandal? Would you watch Guantanamo?
