There won’t be a second season of the Kindred TV show, at least on Hulu. The sci-fi drama series was produced by FX and was released as an exclusive on the streaming service. All eight episodes dropped on December 13th.
Created by showrunner Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, the Kindred TV series is based on the 1979 novel of the same name by Octavia Butler. The show stars Mallori Johnson, Micah Stock, Ryan Kwanten, Gayle Rankin, Austin Smith, Antoinette Crowe-Legacy, and David Alexander Kaplan.
Set in 2016, a young Black woman and aspiring writer named Dana James (Johnson) has just moved to Los Angeles in order to be close to her Aunt Denise (Eisa Davis), her only remaining family member. As Dana begins to settle into her new home, she finds herself being pulled back and forth in time, emerging at a 19th-century plantation in the Antebellum South. She finds herself having to confront secrets she never knew ran through her blood.
Kindred generated a 59% approval rating based on critics’ reviews while 88% of the Rotten Tomatoes audience gave it a thumbs up. In the end, viewership was likely not strong enough to warrant FX ordering a second season.
THR reports that Jacobs-Jenkins is expected to shop Kindred to other outlets since he envisioned a three or four-season run for the show. The first season covered about a third of the Butler novel’s material.

Loved this show! I cannot believe it’s not getting another season. It was so well written and a unique show that is different than anything else on television.

I would really like for there to be a season 2 and even more seasons than that of the show Kindred.
It is neat and differant.
FX is crazy. We are all tired of cop shows, serial killers and all the situation remakes. Kindred is fresh and it covers so many areas of interest and ranges of emotions. Dana’s telling Denise about how she promised not to leave Kevin is an award winning scene. I don’t want to read the book, not yet. I want to know how do we get Kevin back? It’s such a great show! I love mysteries and anything to do with time-slips, so this is EXACTLY what I want to see more of! I want to know what happens next – they left us with a cliff-hanger! How do we “up-vote” a show we love?

Why did I discover this series only in March 2024?!? I’d read the book as a teenager but the changes to the SL in the series make for intriguing storytelling.
I, for one, would love to see what else the show runners have in store for the audience.

I’ve read Kindred, so I know what is going to happen, but there were enough changes in the show to make me interested in how they were going to deal with season two. Definitely disappointed and hope that another streaming service buys it.
