Last week we reported that there was a possibility that the now-cancelled Moonlight series could find a new home on the CW. Though CBS dropped it, the show was being pitched to Media Rights Capitol, the company who recently purchased CW’s Sunday night airtime. Though MRC quickly passed on the series for fall, there was still a possibility that it could pop up midseason. Unfortunately, MRC has now passed on that opportunity as well. Happily for the fans, the show’s chances for survival may not be dead just yet.
Word is that Warner Bros. Television (the studio that produces the series) is still trying to find another home for the vampire drama. They’re approaching cable networks like TNT but Moonlight’s budget is prohibitive for most potential cable buyers. To help reduce the production costs, Warners is also looking into finding a new and cheaper shooting location. Warner shows like Smallville and Supernatural already film in Canada.
Part of the budget problems is one of the show’s greatest assets — Alex O’Loughlin. Because of the actor’s exposure on the series, he’s now in high demand and will likely end up being signed to another weekly series if Moonlight doesn’t survive. His agent, Nathan Morris, tells news.com.au, “He has got a whole raft of things to read through — a role like [Mick] has definitely opened plenty of doors. . . The key is to strike while the iron is hot. ”
It remains to be seen if O’Loughlin would be willing to take a paycut so that Moonlight could move to a smaller cable channel. It would also mean possibly passing on other mainstream projects that might further his career.
Though the actor clearly enjoys vampire role, the CBS series has been a veritable rollercoaster ride. After being told of the series’ cancellation, O’Loughlin described his exhaustion due to the show’s turbulent freshman year. He wrote, “From the very beginning when I was told time and again that I wasn’t the man for the job, having to prove myself to everyone with tests and screen tests, to a complete re-casting of the show, through 5 different show runners at the helm with 5 different artistic visions, to a Writer’s strike that took 5 episodes away from us? oh how the list goes on.”
Soonafter writing this, O’Loughlin and his girlfriend, Holly Vance (who guested as Lola on Moonlight), reportedly escaped L.A. for a two week vacation in Mexico.
Will a new home for the vampire series be found? Would the series’ male star still be on-board if that happens? Stay tuned!
I am just crazy about Alex O’Loughlin and I would love to see Warner Bros. make a Moonlight movie while vamps are so popular … the man can play any role but his devoted fans need closure or maybe a franchise …
I will never understand the cancellation of Moonlight… Great show with amazing writers. It should definetly be brought back on. This was the beginning of the vampire craze
I’ve just stayed up for two days watching the entire first season of Moonlight and loved it. I’m begging whoever has the power to bring back the show, please do. I would definitly buy the seasons and watch them on tv, not matter the time. Twilight has made vampires big. So if you bring out Moonlight for its second season and even third I’m sure that the rating will go up. I’m not sure how it works in Hollywood but please bring back Moonlight. Please bring Alex back into the show too. He is hot and I love the couple… Read more »

is there any
possibility in bringing back moonlight. because i just saw it and i am hooked. BRING THE SHOW BACK PLEASE……..
Moon Light was a awsome series. I think that it was right up there with Twilight and Buffy. I think that Alex O’ Laughlin is a wonderful actor and that the series needs to continue. His fan base comes from my mother who is 65 , me who is 44 and my daughter who is 24. This is a great time to bring the series back but I would bring it back on a different night, like on a Monday or Tuesday…..again please bring the show back.
I wished I had written right after I heard this show was being taken off. It was one of my favorites of course because of Alex O’Laughlin playing a vampire. He was sooo handsome and played a wonderful vampire. It would have been successful because of the Twilight Series. We needed a show like this on TV. Well, I read where you were keeping him under contract, of course you cancel show, but keep the cutie actor. Oh, well guess you can’t please everyone. I even had my daughters watching him. Now I watch Three Rivers but you missed the boat… Read more »

Only just discovered this amazing show, now find there is only one season. Can’t understand why, show is brilliant!!! Really enjoy the interaction between characters and the edges of humour. Bring it back!!!
Maybe the show would’ve got better ratings if you avertised it better because most people have found out about the show much too late to watch it on CBS.
I am a 47 year old woman that likes to watch this show… and i am not the only one of this age group… if people my age like this show what does that tell you? shows like these are usually a young crowd thing… so bring it back we miss it.
