In its sixth season, the ratings for ABC’s Once Upon a Time TV show dropped by around 30%, in both the 18-49 viewer demo and total viewership, yet it wasn’t cancelled. Now, season seven of Once will go on — on Fridays rather than Sundays — without stars Jennifer Morrison, Josh Dallas, Ginnifer Goodwin, Emilie de Ravin and others who have been with the show since its beginning. Some of them will guest star here and there, but will the audience return for the “reboot”? Is there a happy ending in the offing? Will Once Upon a Time be cancelled or renewed for season eight? Stay tuned.
The seventh season of Once Upon a Time stars Lana Parrilla, Robert Carlyle, Colin O’Donoghue, Andrew J. West, Gabrielle Anwar, Dania Ramirez, Alison Fernandez, and Mekia Cox. In the fairy tale drama’s seventh season on ABC, seasoned Enchanted Forest denizens must help a grown-up Henry Mills (West) and his daughter, Lucy (Fernandez) battle evil and return hope to their world and ours. And of course, they’ll have to deal with yet another pesky curse. The many guest stars this season include Morrison, de Ravin, Rebecca Mader, Jared Gilmore, Rose Reynolds, Adelaide Kane, Daniel Jeffrey, Liam Hall, Jillian Fargey, Darcy Laurie, and Meegan Warner. **Update below.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. What do you think? Do you still like the Once Upon a Time TV series, or did the story really end for you with season six? Should this TV show have been cancelled or renewed for an eighth season on ABC?
**2/6 update: While no one is using the word “cancelled,” ABC has decided to end Once Upon a Time with season seven. Details here.
Please renewed many more years stories to tell a lot of people get back into so good season.

Should have just ended it last season
Well at first I was loving this season, and I cried so much when Belle died. Now I’m not in love with it. We waited three weeks for an episode that wasn’t worth the wait. Now next week the mid season finale is happening, and I don’t think they should do that three month hiatous again. I don’t think they can afford to do it. Yeah this season redeemed Rumple, but that’s really it for me. Other than an amazing death scene, it’s pretty much done for. I don’t think it should be renewed. I really don’t even think the… Read more »
I haven’t enjoyed a single episode of Once Upon a Time since season 5b started airing and that is why I never caught up with season 6. Then, I started seeing spoilers going around about new characters and a new curse and I was curious about the boldness of basically firing most of your main cast. I saw it was on Netflix and decided to give it a try. I skipped season 6 (those characters had nothing to offer anymore for me), I started the reboot and it’s… charming. I suddenly felt like I was 19 again, watching one of… Read more »
I tried watching it twice this season but it is not holding my attention anymore. It looks like the show is more interested in bringing in more nationalities in favor of letting us follow the storyline with people we can identify as the characters we used to see.I was totally frustrated trying to understand what the heck they were doing with the show.Don’t watch anymore.
I am really enjoying season 7. It did start slow in the beginning, but as each episode is aired, more and more layers are building. This season is definitely weaving into an intricate plot. I love the Clue / Mystery aspect they are spinning into this season. The old cast was getting old, and there was only so many stories they could tell without it starting to feel stale. This new scenery, new plot, new characters are so refreshing. And since it’s a new world, they can reinvision that world’s portal worlds and characters. I loved what they did with… Read more »
I am a diehard Once fan . Unfortunately so disappointed with the pick for Cinderella’s character. There is no chemistry with Henry. All other characters are good . My favorite being Alice and Ivy. Although this will be the last season to watch because I don’t like Cinderella !
If you’re enjoying Season 7, then you’d better hope that the season finale wraps up the curse, because this show isn’t coming back for another season. That’s not “negativity” it’s just practical advice based on the continually eroding ratings. You may love the reboot, but an increasing number of viewers do not, and there’s no sign that the erosion of eyes on the show is going to stop. Drastic series changes of this kind are always a Hail Mary pass, an act of desperation in the face of impending cancellation. Someone in ABC management was ready to cancel at the… Read more »
They should have ended last year. The reboot is worse than the previous seasons as evidenced by the continued failing ratings. A a a -20 difference in the last episode is awful. Shows with much better numbers were cancelled before this. This shouldn’t even go a full season.
I REALLY hope the show continues. It’s picking up fast. With Drizella (she’s doing amazing), Regina and Rumple being awake, Zelena returning, the witch now released, where’s Drizella’s sister? etc. I’m really enjoying this season. There isn’t enough of Regina and I miss her bond with Emma. And
I don’t care for Jucinda/Cinderella in either realm.
But still liking where this season is going with everything else.
I hope it continues.
The actress playing Cinderella is awful. They should have used the one playing Tianna as Cindy, she can act. Not a fan of what they did with Belle. Why couldn’t she be waiting at the edge of reality or wherever for Rumple instead of dead? Other than that it isn’t a bad reboot, but to rely another curse is more of what was dragging down the previous version.
For me the show ended last year. I’m trying to get into the show this season with the reboot but just can’t. New characters just don’t appeal to me. Not sure if I’m going to even finish watching the rest of this season after the hiatus. Sorry ABC you should have quit while you were ahead and ended on a high note.
Wow, Drizella is really shaping up to be a character to keep an eye on. Watching her history unfold and finding out what makes her tick… I’m starting to like her!
I can’t wait to see why the curse is hero-proof.
