What’s next for The Orville? Recently, produces Tom Costantino and David Goodman spoke with TrekMovie the TV show’s third season move to Hulu.
The sci-fi action dramedy centers on Captain Ed Mercer (Seth MacFarlane), of The U.S.S. Orville, and First Officer Kelly Grayson (Adrianne Palicki) — his ex-wife. Whether facing off with the Krill, a dangerous alien race, or attempting rescues on behalf of the Planetary Union, the human and alien crew still must deal with their mundane issues and each other.
As reported earlier, season three of The Orville is coming to Hulu instead of FOX. Speaking to TrekMovie, co-producer Tom Costantino and executive producer David Goodman revealed the show’s third season was only halfway through filming when the pandemic shut down production.
Now, Goodman says there are talks happening about how to resume production on The Orville:
There are lots of conversations going on at this moment, but nobody has made a hard decision on return to work. We want to get back to work as soon as we can, but we want to do it safely. And whatever strictures are in place, we don’t want them to get in the way of the show we want to make.”
And how will the move to Hulu change the series? Goodman says the transition allows more “freedom”:
What being on Hulu does is allows more freedom. The way Seth runs the show, we take the idea where it takes us. We talk about the episode we want and show we want to do and we write it, and then we produce it. And what Hulu allows us is, once it is produced, we don’t have to be as worried about length. So, there will be a variety of lengths. It allows us to leave some stuff in that we would have had to cut if we were on a network.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of The Orville? Are you excited for season three?
Heartbroken. I loved this show and can’t afford to pay more for TV than I’m already paying. First they released both new Star Trek series to CBS All Access and now this! I’m so sad.
If u sign up for Hulu on Black Friday it’s $1.99 a month. U have to use different email I think every year since system only for new subscribers
Freedom, hmm, now you have to pay to see, doesn’t sound like freedom
Evolution of TV gets worse every day
I’m just so happy it didn’t cancel I just hope being on Hulu won’t hurt not everyone can afford it just keep it on please!
It was fun while it lasted, but being on a fixed income I can’t afford any additional costs, so I will miss watching it. But their excuses don’t fly in my book, that they are moving to HULU so that they won’t have any time constrictions and won’t have to cut parts of the show to fit in the time slot, other shows don’t seem to have a problem, when a show runs long they make it a two parter, or as they say to be continued next week, I have watched some shows that have been two three or even six… Read more »
Won’t be watching HULU, already paying enough for cable. Too bad great show. Why are they moving????????????
At least I could pay ($1.99) by the episode on Amazon for season 2. Eventually I paid for 3 episodes and Amazon gave me the rest of the season for free. I signed up for Hulu for 1 paid month during the Pandemic. Very little of interest for me. I’ll just have to wait several months longer when the DVD hits the library.
Love Orville and resent the fact that we have to pay to see it on Hulu. Seems like the producers don’t care to keep their show available.
I really enjoyed The Orville’s last two seasons and I was looking forward to season 3. However, I do not subscribe to Hulu and I won’t be able to do so.
I feel this is a bad move. I love the Orville but I can’t afford Hulu. You’re alienating a lot of fans with this idea of moving it to Hulu. Please reconsider.
A devoted fan
I’m glad it’s on Hulu. Hulu offers good quality TV that you can control at your fingertips all for just 5.99/month it beats cable with a stick!!
Great show! Nice mix humor,science?,drama
Like old star trek
Yes I am a fan of Orville but we are disappointed that it has moved to Hulu and we won’t be able to watch it. We don’t subscribe to Hulu. Unable to add anymore sites. Going from “free” network channel to a pay to watch is a tease.
will be glad to see the next season, can’t wait for the fun and action.
Unfortunately, I will not be able to watch my favorite show, “The Orville”, since it moved to a payed network. I will not be able to afford the cost of the “paided” network, due to the financial mess our Country’s now in. With so many people out of work, and the Elderly Senior Citizens struggling to just put food on the table and pay for their rent, I think the move to a payed network is a large mistake, granted if you are wealthy, this will not be a problem, but for all the regular folks out here that Love… Read more »
What you can do is pay for only 1 month and watch all the episodes when “all” the episodes are on Hulu.
I agree with you.And food is more important than moving a show to a streaming service that not everyone can afford due to covid.
I think moving The Orville to Hulu was the wrong thing to do. It’s a very popular show and not everyone has Hulu. Bad move people!
