Dark Matter may not being coming back to television, but is there still a future for the story? Recently, co-creator Joseph Mallozzi discussed his plans for the future of the cancelled Syfy TV show.
As reported earlier, Syfy recently cancelled the space-set drama after three seasons. The cast includes Marc Bendavid, Melissa O’Neil, Anthony Lemke, Alex Mallari Jr, Jodelle Ferland, Roger Cross, and Zoie Palmer.
On his blog, Mallozzi revealed he plans on completing the Dark Matter story as a comic book:
All good things must come to an end – some much sooner than expected. Sadly, such is the case for Dark Matter. Despite word of the cancellation by syfy, fandom rose up and gave us new hope. We sought to buck the odds and find our little show a new home. But unfortunately, I just learned that our final option has proven unworkable due to contractual issues. It’s a shame because these potential saviors reached out to me and offered a creative solution that, had it worked, would have been a sci-fi fan’s dream scenario. But, alas, it was not to be. In time, I would love to tell you all about it.
As for what’s next for Dark Matter? My first choice would be to complete the story in comic book format where it originally began, but I’ve just started to look into the possibility now. Beyond that, I’m not sure.
Thank you to my cast and crew who made it all possible.
And an especially HUGE THANK YOU to all of you, the viewers and fans, who made Dark Matter one of syfy’s most watched shows and who rallied and made your voices heard these past few weeks.
I said it before and I’ll say it again…
You all deserved better.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Dark Matter? Would you read the show as a comic book?
I like the show I don’t shanty to read the book I am sorry I got hook on the.show i hate to get left hanging season 4 no season 4 what the hell
I’m still devistated that Dark Matter was cancelled by Syfy and the fact that it can’t be picked up by someone else is infuriating! You broke my heart Syfy. This is just like what happened to Firefly, can we get a movie for Dark Matter too?
Yes I’d read the comic, assuming I could get it in Australia.
I have been watching Dark Matters as a new distraction to my complex life. I found my anticipating the next show as if waiting for a friend to update me on there life. I am far from disappointed. I hope that we will all fight for a new season if for nothing else to allow my friends one more chance to redeem themselves and allow a less vague ending. Thanks
I’m really sad Dark Matter is ending. I have enjoyed the series since it started. It looked like it was going to get more exciting with the new Aliens. I can only hope their will be some way for the series to continue. Even as a book.
I just finished binging season 3 and googled for season 4 right away only to find this out late in the game. I am very disappointed to have become so invested in a show and characters only to have this happen. I don’t watch “tv” and rarely commit to shows largely because this happens to all of the shows I get into. It really makes me not want to bother.
I agree with Gene. The days of Syfy bringing interesting plots and character development in shows is gone. The sometimes cheesy Dark Matter at least had interesting characters interacting with each other. Bring it back or I will have no reason at all to record a show on the channel.
I watched all 3 episodes on Netflix and it was awesome! Netflix should consider to continue the show!
A COMIC BOOK????!!!! Are you F..KING serious??!! Just when I thought the bar couldn’t get any lower. CONGRATULATIONS, SYFY CHANNEL, You’ve just lowered the bar to royally… well, the words that come to mind are pathetic, deplorable, heartbreaking, miserable, inadequate, paltry, useless and not to mention wretched. You disgust me!
is so sad, at one time could not wait for Friday night and the TV tuned to Syfy. Those days are gone and from the looks of it whom ever ruined the channel back when they scrambled the Friday night schedule by cancelling shows and moving others around must still be in charge. Syfy is not a good channel to watch any longer. When they do get a good show they cancel it before the plot finishes. Too bad as use to enjoy Syfy, no longer thou.
So typical of faceless eexecutives who have no idea. I suggest puttng them all in an A Ha video and leaving them there. SyFy is the worst channel and i for one will NOT be watching it ever again.
The problem was money. Dark matter was not a SciFi ORIGINAL. That cuts SciFi out of big cash. If they can’t make BIG money off of it, they ditch them. In the end, it was all about the money. You can thank the (((ones))) in charge. That’s all they ever care about.
Well this is as disappointing as the shortened Babylon 5 series, which also had a 5 year plot arc that had to be squeezed. This was one of the best stories and casts I’ve seen in a long time and I was really loving how the plot arc was unfolding.
I’m afraid the execs are making another bonehead decision, like cancelling Warehouse 13 to concentrate on Defiance, just to have Defiance cancelled a year later.
Sorry. The cast and crew brought this to life for me and to send it back to bubble caption toting static cartoon characters is not a fitting death. Comics just do not cut it after what we have witnessed on the show. It would be more fitting for the executive at SyFy who made the ridiculous decision to cancel this show be turned into a full sized cardboard likeness with a bubble caption expressing his regret for his foolish action. He/she obviously has no clue what real talent or quality entertainment is. If SyFy doesn’t understand and won’t go forward,… Read more »
No Dark Matter means the end of me watching Syfy channel. I was watching Killjoys as well, but Dark Matter was far better in my opinion, and I won’t be watching Killjoys anymore, or for that matter, any other of Syfy’s original series anymore.
So, SiFe has joined the ranks of those who killed Firefly and Star Trek. This is very bad form! What are you doing? Apparently you don’t care about your fan base………. This is one of the only programs left that I watch on your network. If you drop Killjoys I’m cancelling my subscription because you will have nothing else I want. If you’re not going to actually carry science fiction programming in favor of action fantasy then what’s your point???
I think completing the story as anything but on a video medium is a complete cop out. There should either be a season 4, or a TV movie that wraps it up. Nothing less.
