THR reports CBS has officially ordered the pilot for the latest series in the Nancy Drew franchise: Drew.
As reported last week, CBS says the Drew TV series will include a diverse cast. The title character will be aged to her 30s and will not be caucasian. With an eye toward diversity, CBS plans cast roles conscious of color.
Is it time to age and diversify The Hardy Boys for TV, too? The Hardy Boys book series debuted 90 years ago.
What do you think? Do you like the updated, trimmed down Drew TV show title? Do you think it is a good idea to age the character? Which non-white actress would you like to see in the title role?
I think they should keep classics as near to the original idea as possible. I think moving it ahead as an adult lead character is a refreshing concept but the whole idea of changing the characters ethnicity is stupid. If you want diversity then write something all ethnicities. The character was Caucasian and should remain so. Let’s change the lead in The Wiz to a white girl? Dumb isn’t it? Jackie Gleason’s busdriver to a black man was shameful. People go so overboard with diversity. Keep Nancy as she should be but update the character.
I won’t be watching it, either…. I read the books as a girl & so did my mother! And she was a young WHITE girl then & should be now… What’s wrong w/white now, CBS? If you want to have a 30 something black woman doing detective work why make her Nancy Drew? Things are getting ridiculous!
Why not just name the show Murder She Wrote? Oh, they’ve already done that.
A rose by another name would smell as sweet – but it isn’t the same as a marigold, no matter how diverse it is.
Nancy Drew was a white person, nothing wrong with that. Why do you want to make her into something the author never intended.
Yes, I think there should be adult versions of Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys.
I will watch them if they are on network channels, like ABC, etc.
Haters will hate, but I say why not? There’s nothing wrong with some diversity. If the stories are good, it does not matter.
