The Eyewitness TV show on USA Network has been cancelled after just one season of 10 episodes. The drama begins with teen boys — Philip Shea (Tyler Young) and Lukas Waldenbeck (James Paxton). When they meet up in a forest cabin to share their first kiss, they witness a shooting and barely escape with their lives. The cast also includes Julianne Nicholson, Gil Bellows, Warren Christie, and Tattiawna Jones.
An adaptation of the Norwegian crime thriller called Øyevitne, Eyewitness explores a grisly crime from the point of view of the eyewitnesses. Amanda Brugel, Aidan Devine, Rainbow Sun Francks, Matt Murray, Katie Douglas, Mercedes Morris, Carlyn Burchell, Alex Karzis, and Adrian Fritsch recur. Deadline reports there will be no second season on USA.
Eyewitness Cancelled on USA Network: A Look at the Ratings
The first and only season of Eyewitness averaged a 0.17 rating in the 18-49 year old viewer demographic and drew an average total audience of 639,000 viewers. Out of the nine new, scripted USA Network TV series we’re currently tracking, it ranked eighth in terms of its demo ratings and seventh in terms of audience size.
Falling Water is the only first run USA series performing worse in the demo, yet it has not been either cancelled or renewed. Eyewitness outperformed both it, and the second season of the Playing House TV show. USA renewed the latter for a third season, back in January 2016, which should premiere this spring.
What do you think? Did you watch the first season of Eyewitness? Should USA have cancelled or renewed this TV show for season two? Sound off in the comments.
I really liked the show it was different, but it kept you on the edge of your seat. I was hoping for a season 2!!! It shocks me that they have cancelled Eyewitness, but keep The show Teachers and Throwing Shade on, I do realize it’s a different network. But really, It is disappointing
I liked the show a lot. Would have liked to seen more as the characters evolve.
I think the homosexuality was the reason it was cancelled. I did not care for the relationship but then I don’t care for gratuitous sex on tv for any reason. If I want to watch sex, i’ll watch porn. The story was great on all other levels.
Very sad to hear Eyewitness has been canceled. Such a well written show, and all of the actor/actresses were so good. Such a shame.
I loved Eyewitness, it had everything. I am so sad, with all the reality crap shows on TV this was something wonderful and they cancel it? The whole cast was amazing. I never even heard of it and stumbled upon it accidently and was hooked right away. They never promoted it, how can people watch it if they don’t even know its on? It has such a big following now, it would be a hit, some other station should pick it up.
Best show I’ve seen in a long time…excellent cast , great acting. …ridiculous that there is no second season….whatis wrong with you people! By the way was recommended to me by three friends, we are all in our 60’s , and are very picky about what we watch…..so disappointed !
i ******* loved this show. im actually really mad rn that they wont be making a second season, atleast on usa network, but theres still hope another network picks it up
No way, I really enjoyed the first season
That is a real shame. From the get go it captured my attention, and I thought they did an incredible job. I was hoping for a season 2 with a whole new story. They messed up cancelling this show !
It is so sad that in 2017 not one network can create a show like this and have it last for more then a single season. The network should have promoted it better. it’s a shame, because it’s a really great show. If they had done this same story with a boy and a girl rather then two boys it would have been a hit. I sort of feel that they didn’t even try to launch the show properly. That’s a shame as well because the LGBT viewers would have loved it had it been marketed to them
The show might have done poorly in ratings, but that’s not why they canceled it. Falling water is from the same network and did even worse in ratings that show is still ongoing. The only reason this show was canceled was its controversial plot dealing with two homosexual main characters. Btw homophobes why do you guys constantly think people are trying to stuff homosexuality In your face? You don’t hear gay people telling you that all thes shows involving straight people are shoving heterosexuality in their faces# double standard much
Worst decision ever made by USA network. It should´ve been renewed, should´ve been promoted- I would say more, but it WAS NOT PROMOTED AT ALL! Such a unique show, with an excellent story, outstanding performances and a devoted fanbase! We´re not giving up!
Grrr f*** you idiots, that makes me so angry, bring them back!
The show was very well made and had a compelling story. I can think of no reason it did so poorly except they tried to shove homosexuality to a new level down our throats. I almost stopped watching it. Otherwise, this show was beautifully made. They made their choice, now they suffer the consequences.
I feel the same way when I see unmarried people having sexual relations in nearly every TV show, as well as interracial couples of any kind. I get that both of those things exist, but I don’t want to see it. TV should only reflect my personal tastes and when it doesn’t the producers and artist should SUFFER! I’m being sarcastic, because I’m not a bigot.
Bigot? Hilarious. That wasn’t directed at me? Hilarious again. If you reread my post, I said they presented the homosexual storyline at a new level. 20%+ of each episode was this storyline. I don’t want to see any crime/mystery show with this level of love story of any sort. Get over yourselves. Everyone that doesn’t agree with you is a bigot right? You know what that makes you?
When two people have a relationship of which happens in every TV show or movie, why did you pick out this relationship as a problem? You think that is Hilarious? You know what that makers you?
Now you know how gay people feel when they have to watch show after show that deal with straight people(in other words, all other shows) it’s a bit infuriating that nobody gets uncomfortable seeing two straight people make out, but the second two men hold hands it’s controversial.
Okay it did not “shove homosexuality down our throats” the main relationship was gay. The main relationship is straight in practically everything, but somehow that’s not shoving heterosexuality down our throats?
Amazing that they cancelled this before they cancelled Falling Water, whose ratings are even WORSE. Go figure.
Oh no!!!!! I’m from Australia and really loved this show. I liked the main characters and their relationships with each other. Sad now A second season would have been great to see their relationships grow.
