The Night Sky series has been sunset. Prime Video has cancelled the science-fiction show so there won’t be a second season.
A drama, the Night Sky TV show stars Sissy Spacek, J.K. Simmons, Chai Hansen, Kiah McKirnan, Julieta Zylberberg, Rocío Hernández, and Adam Bartley. Spanning space and time, the story follows Irene (Spacek) and Franklin York (Simmons). Years ago, the couple discovered a chamber buried in their backyard which inexplicably leads to a strange, deserted planet. They’ve carefully guarded their secret ever since, but when an enigmatic young man (Hansen) enters their lives, the Yorks’ quiet existence is quickly upended. The mystifying chamber they thought they knew so well turns out to be much more than they could ever have imagined.
Co-produced by Amazon Studios and Legendary Television, the series debuted on May 20th and all eight episodes were released the same day. Deadline reports that, while the series garnered positive reviews, Night Sky didn’t attract a large enough audience to justify the high-cost investment of making a second season of this sci-fi series.
While the show didn’t attract a large enough audience on Earth, perhaps the series might find more appreciation in other parts of the universe.
Prime Video, in conjunction with Amazon Web Services, SES, and Intelsat, beamed the first episode of the sci-fi drama series into outer space just in time for the series premiere. This marks not only the farthest distance from the earth that a TV series has been distributed but also makes Prime Video the first streamer to distribute its content directly into space.

Yes! Myself and our group of tv watchers is becoming more and more disappointed by the counties cancelations of Really great programs. Programs that have promise and given just a “little” advertisement attention to boost awareness among the public. It isn’t that they are not getting watched because we have now seen with more recent/current programming cancelations, that even shows that are getting a great audience are still being canceled. Yet you still have Law & Order on for all the people interested in the same friggin storyline every single week year in & year out! What is the deal… Read more »

Way to blow it, Amazon. My family watched Night Sky just last week, and talk about ******** the pooch. It was beautiful–spot-on performances, amazing premise, and the season ended with three perfectly laid out plot lines for season two. It’s smart, sometimes funny, intriguing, and JK Simmons made us cry. You didn’t make us cry, though, Amazon. You just made us mad.
Amazon, theres no easy way to say this, so here it goes. YOUR PROMOTIONS DEPARTMENT SUCKS !!! Amazon Prime Video has fast become the hospice where great shows, very great stories, and very talented actors, and hopeful audiences go to have their hopes dashed ! You allow your stories to die, slowly, torturing and enticing fans into insanity. Expecting a different result, here we stupidly go back into the dark with you. Yes, I am very disappointed. I only just stumbled upon it and was completely captivated. I thought the portrayal of the relationships was great and was so looking forward to seeing how things played out. I simply can’t believe it has been cancelled. And what’s with the production values claim by Amazon. It seems fairly cheap, conversation, driving in cars, no special effects to speak of.

We are extremely disappointed in prime for canceling night sky….it was a very interesting show…someone else should take it over to continue the show…plenty of opportunities for future show…no reason to cancel, great actors even..

No substitute for another season, but how about a movie? That wouldn’t do it much justice cramming it all into two hours, though.
