Not counting the Prison Break revival, FOX introduced 10 new TV shows during the regular 2016-17 television season and cancelled seven of them. Now they’ve picked up Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane’s new space adventure comedy drama. Can his animated series success translate to live-action sci-fi? Will The Orville TV show be cancelled or renewed for a second season on FOX? Stay tuned.
The Orville stars MacFarlane, Adrianne Palicki, Penny Johnson Jerald, Scott Grimes, Peter Macon, Halston Sage, J Lee, Mark Jackson, Chad L. Coleman, Norm Macdonald, Larry Joe Campbell, Victor Garber, Brian George, and Rachael MacFarlane. In 2417, Ed Mercer (Seth MacFarlane) is promoted to captain The U.S.S. Orville, with the assistance of First Officer Kelly Grayson (Palicki). Unfortunately, she’s his ex-wife, and her presence acts as a bridle on his enthusiasm. Whether facing off with the Krill, a dangerous alien race, or attempting rescues on behalf of the Planetary Union, the human and alien crew still must deal with their mundane issues and each other.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
12/8 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like The Orville TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season on FOX?
11/2 update: The Orville is renewed for season two on FOX. Details here.
Definitely keep, Star Trek on steroids, 100x more original story lines for modern times, very relevant topics and social dilemmas, great wit, excellent comedic timing, need to listen to every word, tone and body language, not 6th grade humor if you’re paying attention and not half committed to watching it, the humor is over some people’s heads for sure, rare I get addicted to a sci-fi sitcom. Bortus laying and egg and brooding ha,
I love the show!
Great show, only the first episode wasn’t as good. Don’t stop watching after the first episode and you will love it
Anything that has Adrianne Palicki in it, deserves a shot.
I love it!! The show has been improving every episode! The world they have created makes you want to be one of the crew. The funny comments the crew throws in are what real people might say. The ship is comfortable inside makes you want to be there. Smart and fresh! Will watch every episode!
I love it! As an old Star Trek fan from the beginning with Capt Kirk, I’ve watched all the franchise series. When it all ended I was disappointed. Learning about “The Orville”, at first I was skeptical and thought it would be ridiculous. Then I watched it and was immediately hooked. It’s got a lot of Star Trek in it which I love. I can appreciate the peppered in comedy, just the right amount, not too much. I think it does make the characters more natural, with bad behavior etc. It’s a nice new chapter. I think the producers are… Read more »
Its a B- for me. I have some hope for it as it has the bones of a good show, the writing just needs to be tightened up and the pace picked up a little…there has been a few times where the outcome has been so obvious so early in the show I have almost rolled my eyes but despite that its not hard to watch.
Lt Alara: What is that?
Bortis: It appears to be a Class 2 spacial fold
Lt Malloy: Back at Union Point we called that a Glory Hole
Captain Mercer: You called it a Glory Hole, no one else called it a Glory Hole
Captain Mercer: Gordon, take us in
Lt Malloy: Aye Sir
Bortis: Now entering Glory Hole
Captain Mercer: No Bortis, it’s not…it’s…*Deep Sigh*
Bortis: Sir?
Captain Mercer: It’s fine, forget it
I like the show, it reminds me of Married with children in the way they deal with everyday issues that we are experiencing in society today, often though they come at it through the back door so to speak. They confront the issues with comedy and often almost wrong, but it makes you think about it. it seems there is a lesson of life in every show, and I’m beginning to like the characters as they develop them.
Look forward to The Orville every week. Great social issues and world events are shown in a wonderful format. Please renew. Most of my friends agree.
Love this show, please keep it going. I’m of the older generation and me and my whole family watch this one and just thoroughly enjoy it. We find it very interesting, entertaining and funny.
They need to make it viewable outside the US. I would love to watch and support this show but even Fox.com won’t allow it due to regional restrictions.
Come on, Fox. It’s the 21st Century.
You pushed too far when you turned the aliens gay, and had them kiss. Now I will no longer watch anything that you produce, have a nice day!
Love it, got all episodes on demand, please, please keep it.
IS very much like the original Star Trek .
Love it. Keep it. Can’t wait to see the next episode.
