What does your gut tell you? Is this the beginning of the end for the Instinct TV show on CBS? Although originally, the episode “Long Shot” was supposed to air on Mother’s Day, it has been pulled from the schedule for May 13th and is being replaced by a second episode of 60 Minutes. Whether Instinct‘s season two renewal chances are the real long shot remains to be seen.
Instinct is also not scheduled to air on May 20th, but that had already been the plan. According to the network’s press site, new episodes are still slated for May 27th and June 3rd. Of course those weeks fall outside of Nielsen’s May Sweeps period, which this year runs from April 26th to May 23rd. Whether Instinct will be cancelled or renewed for a second season, it seems CBS may not have wanted it to further dilute the Sunday night ratings during Sweeps.
A CBS crime thriller, based on the James Patterson novel, Murder Games, Instinct stars Alan Cumming, Bojana Novakovic, Daniel Ings, Naveen Andrews, and Sharon Leal. The drama centers on Dr. Dylan Reinhart (Cumming), a former CIA operative who is lured out of his peaceful retirement as a university professor and author, to help NYPD Detective Lizzie Needham (Novakovic) catch a serial killer.
Instinct: A Look at the Ratings
The first season of Instinct is averaging a 0.81 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.859 million viewers. Of the 27 scripted CBS TV shows we’re tracking right now, Instinct currently ranks 21st when sorted by its demo ratings. It rises to ninth place, however, in terms of average total audience size.
What do you think? Will the Instinct TV series be cancelled or renewed for season two on CBS? What would happen if it were up to you? Sound off, in the comments.
I really enjoy this show and watch it every week. Alan Cumming could make anything worth watching, but as the show has found its feet, the writing has gotten stronger and the supporting cast is good too. I hope CBS gives it time to continue building its audience.
I love this show!!!!!!!! I will be so sad if it is cancelled. The good shows go off the air snd the crappy ones stay. UGH! It is a sad commentary on the level of the TV viewing audience.

Please don’t cancel Instinct. It is one of my favorite shows. I spent 30 minutes last night trying to figure out why it wasn’t on. Please keep it!!!
Disappointed to find 60 minutes instead of Instinct! Clever show, enjoy characters. Please don’t cancel. Perhaps different time slot??
no one likes 60 minutes maybe my grandma liked it, back when she was alive, another wise that’s just a bad show to replace a good show like instinct with, I turn the channel if I see 60 minutes in the title in the guide on directtv. I read online yesterday that they are also canceling lucifer series too online, we hope that doesn’t really happen but if it does I hope fox has some better shows to put in its place if they want people young people to still watch their channel still, also I am a bit tired… Read more »
Alan Cumming alone is worth the price of admission. Here, his supporting cast and writers, are equal to the task of creating quality TV drama. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
Please do not cancel this series. We look forward to it every Sunday evening!
Please don’t cancel Instinct, it is a great change from all of the other cop shows.

My husband and I love Instinct. It’s one of a very few prime time shows we watch. Alan Cumming is great! We’re glad it’s been renewed for a second season!
