If Elizabeth McCord wants to become “Madam President”, she better hurry. CBS has announced that the Madam Secretary TV show will end with its upcoming sixth season. There will be just 10 episodes in the final season and they will begin airing in Fall 2019.
A political thriller, Madam Secretary stars Téa Leoni, Tim Daly, Sara Ramirez, Željko Ivanek, Keith Carradine, Sebastian Arcelus, Patina Miller, Geoffrey Arend, Erich Bergen, Kathrine Herzer, Wallis Currie-Wood, and Evan Roe. The drama follows the shrewd, determined Elizabeth McCord (Leoni). As U.S. Secretary of State, she battles office politics, while driving diplomacy and negotiating global deals.
Elizabeth was once a CIA analyst, who exited that post for ethical reasons. She later returned to public life, at the request of President Conrad Dalton (Carradine). He values her apolitical leanings, knowledge of the Middle East, flair for languages, and unconventional thinking. Elizabeth is married to Henry (Daly), a former theology professor who is now an intelligence operative. Together, they’re bringing up three children, which can really test her diplomatic skills.
CBS Entertainment president Kelly Kahl announced that there won’t be a seventh season at CBS’ upfronts press breakfast earlier today. Kahl said, “They’re going to do 10 episodes in the fall and tie up the storyline. We’re happy and excited to do that for Téa, the cast, and the audience. It’s hard when a show ‘just poofs and goes away.’ We like to be able to do this and send the show off with a great deal of respect and celebration. Everyone appreciates when we are able to do that.”
What do you think? Do you like the Madam Secretary TV show? Do you think season six is a good time to end this CBS TV show? Would you have watched a seventh season?
The show was great at the beginning, but in subsequent seasons, more and more of the writing seemed to be a comment on our present politics and current administration. Too bad the writers felt they had to use the show as a vehicle to express their political opinions. Probably the show could have run for much longer with an interesting sequel had it been written with real quality and style, and without political commentary.
Loved this show! Very sorry to have it end. Madam President would be a great sequel! Bring it back! Bring it back!
This was the best show on TV! I was looking forward to another season. It was great seeing how government could work.
I have watched every episode and was fully expecting a seventh season. You left the show hanging without an ending. You leave on garbage shows like MacGyver and NCIS New Orleans.
We really enjoyed the show. We are very disappointed it is not staying on.
I was disappointed the way Madam Secretary ended so quickly. It was really to bad they didn’t get to end the season with more closure.
Our whole family watched together, and we’re so disappointed that the show has been cancelled. Téa Leoni, Tim Daly, Keith Carradine, Zeljko Ivanek are all amazing, and surely will turn up in new shows, but we will miss their characters from this show sooooo much. We wish they were in Washington now instead of the zany characters there now in the real world.
That SUCKS! It was one of the most intelligent shows on regular TV and I loved it. Way to go CBS.
yes, will really miss the show!
Should have NOT been cancelled
The show had run its course. There wasn’t to much more to portray. I thought it done very well and watched most of the series. I think when she became president the show started to change and was not as interesting.
Then watch something else, My whole family enjoyed the whole series, we watch them over and over. Madam Secretary was a blessing to watch, trust me when I say there is very limited shows on TV and then the station rips some of the best shows right out from under u. WHAT??? are you afraid they were hitting on to many points and solving them that the Government screwed up on????Shame on you for canceling a favorite of so many Americans. who in the world threatened you and made you cancel it?
I DEFIN
ITELY WOULD LIKE TO WATCH 7TH SEASON PLEASE
This show is too important now to our psyches to stop. It is how our government should be run and we need to watch it to stay sane in this time of total chaos. Please do not cancel thus show!!!
I have enjoyed the series and the characters. There was depth to characters, interesting plots and up to date issues. I did not appreciate the fact that often the show would be cut for “Specials” or run late because a show before it ran overtime. I will be sorry to see it go.
I thought “Madame Secretary” was one of the most interesting, up-to-date and best choreographed programs on CBS, or any TV channel. It was one of my favorite programs, along with Seal Team-6, NCIS (WDC), NCIS Los Angeles, FBI, Chicago PD, NCIS New Orleans and a few others, in that order. It must have been like “A Person of Interest,” that just faded away… I guess it was too complicated for most Americans today. It was very current: If something happened in the World, something similar was on the show within weeks, and if something happened on the show… it happened… Read more »
100% agree with everything said here!
I watched each & every show, and could not have enjoyed the series more. Your comments were very astute, as people I am close to & respect, found the show too complicated to follow & understand. You have to be a little political to follow everything in the show, and I feel a great many of our fellow American’s are somewhat confused & frustrated with the situation in our Country at this time. I believe the viewing audience deteriorated as of late due to those factors, which to me makes it a true shame that the show had to be… Read more »
