ABC cancelled four series last week, and now Craig Erwich, President of ABC Entertainment and Hulu Originals, is revealing the reasoning behind dropping Rebel, For Life, American Housewife, and Mixed-ish.
Erwich said the following about the cancellation of the four shows, per Deadline:
“They are all unique shows who on their own specific timeline where they are creatively and with the audience. I can say that just because we are not ordering new seasons does not take anything away from the impact that these shows had creatively or how many fans they have on ABC. These are difficult business decisions but we are really proud of the runs that all of these shows had.”
As for Rebel, Erwich did speak about that series directly. The series was canceled after airing just four episodes. Katey Sagal, Erin Brockovich and Krista Vernoff all spoke out after the Thursday night series was cancelled. Erwich said the following about the still airing ABC series:
“Krista Vernoff is not just an amazing talent, she is a valued and beloved part of the Disney family. We gave Rebel a really considerable launch and a launch effort. It was a huge priority for us for midseason. One of the advantages of a stable schedule is, you can focus and platform new shows, which Rebel was a beneficiary of Unfortunately, it did not garner the audience that we needed it to do, so we had to make that decision.”
For Life is being shopped to other outlets, and the same could happen for Rebel.
What do you think? Do you wish ABC had kept these four shows for next season? Would you watch any of them on new homes if they are saved?
I loved Rebel because it was different and Katey was great in the role. We can use more positive shows. I watch a lot of TV and all we have are Cop shows FBI,Fire,Hospital,Legal,NCIS. I watch many of them but different and uplifting is good. We all can use shows like this right now.. I would definitely watch on another station.
I loved this show too. All the actors are so good. I loved it because it was so different too. Please keep it on the air
Rebel should have not been cancelled. The writing is really good. Why would you cancel it after 4 episodes. I watched episode 6 last night. It was soooo good. You never even gave the show a whole season which you should have done. Seems like you wrongly cancelled the show.
I couldn’t agree more with every word.
I loved Rebel for truth telling. In this day and age .Truth is surely absent
How can you cancel Rebel? It’s a really good show! What are you thinking? Give viewer’s a chance to see it. Why do all you television stations cancel shows so fast? I get the others, they have all had a good run. But Rebel…really?!?!
Just what I was thinking too. They didn’t give it a chance. I’m so disappointed in them.
I would definitely be watching these shows and was very upset to find out that they were cancelled.
Rebel is a great show. I will watch it if it goes to a new home.
At least keep rebel on hulu or prime
It is the biggest mistake ever that ABC and Hulu have ever done to cancel these programs, what are you people thinking,I am a big fan if ABC/Hulu finally there is something good to watch and you pull the plug. It’s so heart breaking that you have come to this. Rebel is the best show that could have happened to ABCanf you don’t even realize it. Katy Sagal you are the best at what you do. What else can I say ABC/HULU you’ve made a terrible mistake.
Sincerely
Linda Luna ABC/Hulu Fan or will I still be a fan.
Mixed-use is one of my favorite shows. I would love to find it on a different FREE network.
I was anticipating A.H with her being pregnant and a few other curves. I was waiting until a pickup or not before I watch it but I won’t be.
I would watch Rebel and For Life if I don’t have to pay to watch them. Especially Rebel. I hope another network picks them up.
I enjoyed Rebel, hope another network pick up the show.
I watch for life and rebel every week I love both series so sorry to see them canceled
I am very disappointed about the cancelation of Rebel.
Rebel is a good show and I was reeled in during the first episode, but some people need a bit longer. You decide to nix it after only 4 episodes that doesn’t even give it a chance to get much of the story done. A lot of people are busy and plan to binge watch it later. Some people may have been waiting for the regular season shows to go on the summer finale and then start a new show to have something to enjoy during the break. You guys should have given it more of a chance.
Well said. I agree with you.
For Life and Mix-ish are two of my favorite shows. I can’t believe their ratings are low enough to cancel!
