The chances of a sixth season renewal have disappeared for The Magicians. Syfy has revealed that the current fifth season will also be the show’s last.
The Magicians stars Stella Maeve, Olivia Taylor Dudley, Hale Appleman, Arjun Gupta, Summer Bishil, Rick Worthy, Jade Tailor, Brittany Curran, and Trevor Einhorn. The series follows a group of friends as they discover their magical abilities and ward off evil creatures who threaten to destroy the magical world they’ve come to know. In season four, magic was saved with Quentin Coldwater giving his life to save his friends and the world. In year five, there’s too much magic and, as the excess builds, an apocalypse looms.
The fifth season of The Magicians averages a 0.11 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 341,000 viewers. Compared to season four, that’s down by 44% in the demo and down by 37% in viewership.
Eight episodes of the current season’s 13 installments have aired thus far. The de facto series finale is expected to run on Wednesday, April 1st. While the season’s finale was not planned to end the show, word is that it was written so that it could also serve as The Magicians’ last episode.
“The Magicians has been a part of our Syfy family for five fantastic seasons,” Syfy said in a statement to Deadline. “As we near the end of this journey, we want to thank John McNamara, Sera Gamble, Henry Alonso Myers, Lev Grossman, and our entire brilliant cast, crew, writers, and directors for their beautiful creation. But most of all, we thank the fans for their tremendous support and passion. Because of you, magic will be in our hearts forever.”

Canceling Magicans is a mistake. It is endearing and witty it has a great cast and iconic writing. Is is good for all ages. There are enough zombie series keep the fun one
The good shows that lose some ratings over a bad decision and or season, or that dont get as much views as the network would like always get cancelled. More often then the shows that are bland and line up with other networks shows
Literally the best show on Syfy right now. I think they goofed. Sad to hear it’s ending. Gonna have to read the books now, very slowly. Lol.
This is an amazing show! It did lose something w Q s death but this season was still clever and funny. I don’t want to see it cancelled. Maybe Netflix could pick it up! They save Lucifer when fox cancelled!
Sorry to see such a great show cancelled. The musical episodes are epic. Ie under pressure and I want to be sedated.

Very sad it is cancelled. I am sure if it was better marketed it would have had tons of viewers. I only discovered it this year.

I really enjoy this show and have looked forward each year to the new season. I am disappointed that it has been canceled, I thought for sure it had at least one or two more seasons ahead, my only hope now is that SYFY will come to their senses and order another season. If not, maybe AMAZON will pick it up like “THE EXPANSE”!

I recently found this show, binged seasons 1-4 in just 2 weeks, and am caught up with season 5. The creativity is amazing, the cast is very talented, and the humor appeals to Gen X (my generation) and Millenials alike. TV is loosing it’s best kept secret.
Also appeals to me and I’m a 65 year old female.
The death of Coldwater was it for me. I have no interest in watching season 5 or 6 or anything. Thats the only reason the show was cancelled. Now it’s just another witches tv series.
TV Needs to follow the books. And maybe Q shows up a bunch in seasons 5-6. Don’t disappear!!!
Couldn’t have said it any better. I never even watched the last episode of season 4. A friend told me Quentin died. So I just stopped watching. Stupidest plot twist ever. Remove the central heart, soul and moral compass of a 4 year old series and expect the loyal viewer to trust and to continue to build emotional bonds to the remaining characters shows a total lack of respect for the fans. Quentin was the show. They should have ended it there.
What an unbelievably stupid decision, I was looking for the season six release date when I saw this.
Very upset to find out this is the last season. We waited eagerly every year for the new season. One of our favorite shows. Hoping that someone will pick up new seasons.
