It appears that another ABC sitcom has fallen. The alphabet network has cancelled the United We Fall series after a short summer run. It won’t be returning for a second season.
The United We Fall TV show stars Will Sasso, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Jane Curtin, Guillermo Diaz, Ella Grace Helton, and Ireland and Sedona Carjaval. The series revolves around the trials and tribulations of Bill (Sasso) and Jo (Mitchell) as they try to make it day-to-day as a functioning family. They’re the parents of two young kids, Emily (Helton) and Lulu (Carjaval). Bill’s very judgmental live-in-mother, Sandy (Curtin), and Jo’s large Latinx Catholic family — including brother Chuy (Diaz) — never hesitate to let this couple know they’re seemingly screwing up. Thankfully, Bill and Jo will always have each other’s backs.
The first season of United We Fall averaged a 0.50 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.43 million viewers. Compared to the other summer ABC TV shows, United We Fall ranks seventh in the demo and fourth in viewership. The de facto series finale aired on August 26, 2020.
The series was co-produced by Sony Pictures Television (with ABC Studios). Deadline has reported that Sony TV and other studios are pulling back from producing half-hour comedies. The existing broadcast model, which is based on a studio taking a financial risk in hopes of reaping rewards later if a show is a long-running hit, isn’t nearly as profitable in the current age of vertical integration and streaming.
What do you think? Did you enjoy the United We Fall TV show? Are you sorry to hear that it won’t be returning for a second season on ABC?
I liked it…I have held off watching the last show…I don’t want it to end….sigh…..
I enjoyed the show, Will Sasso was great on Mom, maybe they can bring him back now that Anna Farris left the show!
United We Fall was an awful TV show. Jane Curtin used to be funny, but now she’s just odd. Everything about the writing was forced and unfunny, especially the kids and the brother-in-law.
I thought that was one of the funniest shows in a long time. All the cast meshed well. So sorry that they take off all the good stuff and leave us with game shows
United We Fall was hilarious!!! So bummed that it’s cancelled.
Sad to see it not renewed! It was funny and realistic!
It was a refreshing entertaining G rated show with some funny moments. sorry to see it go
The show may not have been a blockbuster, but it had its funny moments and it was entertaining and G rating was refreshing. Sorry to see it go
I’m not surprised at all…. We barely made it 10 minutes into the 1st episode. Simply awful! Hopefully the “dad” in this will go back to being Jill’s b.f. on MOM. Now there’s a hit show!
Mom is circling the drain since it looks like Anna Faris is leaving the show
I am not surprised for one minute.
It was truly dreadful and if there is an award for the wort use of canned laughter, this is where it should be given.
But even canned laughter cannot disguise that it was not even remotely amusing, let alone funny.
Whoever green lit this to be televised needs placing under the spotlight.
It was a great show! You are alittle dramatic to say that. With how the world is today we need clean and funny shows like this one. Not the gross shows that are not family friendly.. if you didn’t like it then why did you watch it?
I didn’t watch this show and overall I don’t have anything to say about its quality but in regards to you asking him “if you didn’t like it then why did you watch it?”, don’t you think for someone to have come to the conclusion that they didn’t like a show or a movie they would have to give it a chance and watch it first, rather than say it’s bad just to say it? Because if that’s what he was doing you’d probably be getting on to him about that but he actually saw the show and had an… Read more »
I really love this show…….. It was really cute too.
I am still surprised that ABC didn’t renewal the show for the second season. I still thought that the show was very good and the rating would improve in the second season.
Didn’t give this show a chance. It averaged 3.43 million viewers that is better then what Black-ish has averaged the last couple of years and yet they keep Black-ish and give it spin-offs (grown-ish/mixed-ish/ and now working on Old-ish).
“United We Fall” was only a replacement series. Used by ABC to cut down on reruns, during the COVID-19 production slow-down. It was probably rejected before, for the fall schedule of 2019. I expected its cancellation. I couldn’t make it through the first unimaginative episode.
Loved the show. Why can’t we keep family comedies on the air. Families need shows to watch together again.
Right!!!!!!! I 100% agree
So sad, loved the show. But keep on like the bachelor, and other reality show
