It will soon be “case closed” permanently for the Instinct TV show on CBS. The network has cancelled the Sunday night series so there won’t be a third season for Reinart and Needham.
A crime thriller, based on the James Patterson novel, Murder Games, Instinct stars Alan Cumming, Bojana Novakovic, Daniel Ings, Naveen Andrews, and Sharon Leal. The drama centers on Dr. Dylan Reinhart (Cumming), a former CIA operative who is lured out of his peaceful retirement as a university professor and author, to help NYPD detective Lizzie Needham (Novakovic) catch a serial killer. Dylan’s old CIA colleague, Julian Cousins (Andrews), lends a hand, along with Lizzie’s C.O., Lt. Jasmine Gooden (Leal). Season two kicked off with Dylan reinstated as NYPD consultant, where he can both impress and irritate Lizzie. Meanwhile, Dylan’s husband, Andy (Ings), pursues adoption as a way for the couple to finally become parents.
Airing on Sunday nights, the second season of Instinct is currently averaging a 0.31 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.39 million viewers. Compared to season one, that’s down by 50% and 49%, respectively. Instinct is nearly the lowest-rated TV shows of the summer CBS TV shows.
A pair of Instinct episodes will air tomorrow night on CBS and the series finale will run next Sunday, August 25th.
Series creator Michael Rauch revealed the show’s cancellation and Cumming and Novak shared their thoughts.
WELL THIS SUCKS BALLS. But when one door closes another… actually fuck that. This sucks balls. Love to all our fans and the most incredible cast and crew. Thank you all for an incredible two years. @Michael_Rauch @Alancumming @CBSTweet @CBSTVStudios @TVdub https://t.co/80QDAJvbTy

What do you think? Did you enjoy the Instinct TV show on CBS? Would you have watched a third season of this series?
One of the FEW series that my husband watches with me. I was so optimistic that we’d see Dylan and Andy as parents, and follow Dylan and Julian as they find the bad guy(s). CBS, you’ve been a go-to for me, but with series ending or cancelled you are slowly but surely losing me…and I control the remote!
My wife and I LOVE this show. We’re really upset and think that CBS are idiots! No more Elementary and now, no more Instinct. Clueless!
Another great show thrown to the garbage dogs. Most every new show I start to watch and get invested in gets cancelled. I quit. Dearly loved the show and am soo sorry it go t cancelled.
My daughter and I are really upset about Instinct ending! And yes, it really does “Suck Balls”! CBS has always been known for dropping the BEST shows favoring mindless ******** programming for mindless twits! Just look at “Big Brother” hahaha!! Hopefully another network will do this great series justice and pick it up where CBS dropped yet another big ball!
Feel sorry for that news. It was a nice program combining drama with fun occasions. It was another série that was showing in what kind of world we are all living. The goal of each episode was real. Like someone said , what is going on at CBS?
Really another decent and fun summer show canceled?! Come on CBS pull your head out of your arse.
Oh I am so sad to see this series go. You’re right, Lizzie, IT SUCKS BALLS. Just when the guys will be parents and there’s the thing with Julian possibly being a traitor’s traitor. I was so interested in seeing where THAT went. All good things come to an end; I have NEVER accepted that.
Here they go taking another good show off the air. I really enjoyed this show and was looking forward to another season. Stop taking off enjoyable shows and leaving mindless dribble scripted-reality shows on. Instinct was a great show and I loved the book and author, James Patterson. Hey James, can you talk them into another season or two?
Honestly? Another of my favorites cancelled. Why?
INSTINCT is the best new 1 hr drama . It is well written, well cast, fast paced & we want it to continue. No more air-headed fluff…..we won’t watch it.
Always have been a big fan of Alan Cumming – even when he played unsympathetic roles. Loved that the network had the balls to portray a gay couple so winningly. I definitely would like to have seen further developments in the character interactions.
I am very sorry to see this show cancelled & So abruptly. How can they even rate the viewing audience correctly when 1/2 the nation can’t even watch cbs due to Direct TV/ATT contract issues,!!! CBS is a sorry state of affairs these days
I can’t believe another great show cancelled. TV is getting really sad to watch. All the good shows again are being cancelled and the crap is left behind. Grrrrr
I enjoyed the show as it was intriguing and multifaceted between job and personal life which added greatly to the enjoyment. WISH it would continue!
I’m not that surprised and had predicted it not to go beyond season 1.
Not that it’s a bad show because it isn’t but it was too bubble gum and didn’t take full advantage of Alan Cummings acting virtuosity.
It needed a little darkness to separate it from the pack.
