Jesse Metcalfe has left the Chesapeake Shores TV series after four seasons. The relationship between Metcalfe’s Trace and Meghan Ory’s Abby has been a key part of the Hallmark Channel drama for its entire run, up until this point. Will viewers stick with the show without that relationship or, will they be open to Abby finding a new love? Will Chesapeake Shores be cancelled or renewed for season six? Stay tuned. *Status Update Below.
A Canadian-American drama, the Chesapeake Shores TV series stars Ory, Treat Williams, Diane Ladd, Robert Buckley, Barbara Niven, Laci J. Mailey, Emilie Ullerup, Brendan Penny, and Andrew Francis. The store explores the lives of the O’Brien family, after the homecoming of eldest daughter Abby O’Brien (Ory), a high-powered career woman and divorced mother of two. Over the past few seasons, Abby has leaned on her family to strike a balance between her professional and personal lives. This season will see her coming into her own as her father Mick’s (Williams) new business partner and facing a new challenge when successful and eccentric entrepreneur Evan McKenzie (Buckley) brings a new development project into town.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s chances of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.
3/30/22 update: Chesapeake Shores has been renewed.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: Season four of Chesapeake Shores on Hallmark Channel averaged a 0.18 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.70 million viewers.
Note: These are the final national ratings, including all live+same day viewing and DVR playback (through 3:00 AM). Early fast affiliate ratings (estimates) are indicated with an “*”. While these numbers don’t include further delayed or streaming viewing, they are a very good indicator of how a show is performing, especially when compared to others on the same channel. There can be other economic factors involved in a show’s fate, but typically the higher-rated series are renewed and the lower-rated ones are cancelled.
What do you think? Do you like the Chesapeake Shores TV series on Hallmark Channel? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a sixth season?
*3/29/2022 update: Hallmark has renewed Chesapeake Shores for a sixth and final season.
I’m disappointed Jesse Metcalf left the show I quit watching it
Loved Season 5, please bring it back for S6 it would be great
I love Season 5 of Chesapeake Shores and sincerely hope it is renewed. This season has been my favorite.
I love Chesapeake Shores. However, I stopped watching when they axed the Trace and Abby story. They were the heart and soul of the show. His music always tied in beautifully with the different scenes. Now, I no longer watch. If Hallmark will do right by the fans and bring Trace & Abby back together…and with a wedding…I will be back to watch. I really did love the show, but it’s not the same show without Abby & Trace.
I absolutely love this show! I am an avid Hallmark channel viewer but stumbled upon this show during the episode where Jess and David were getting married. The 10 minutes I watched made me want to start from the beginning and I have been binge watching every episode since then. I love that this is a wholesome family show, that can be watched by the whole family. I absolutely love all the characters and how well they interact and play off of each other. It makes for such entertains and feel good tv. So if anyone from the Hallmark channel… Read more »
I agree with DOC. The love between Abby and Trace had to end. I personally do not miss the character. Abby is better off without Trace. I enjoy watching everyone on the show and will continue to watch it and hope the show is renewed for more Seasons.
I like this show. The Trace & Abby storyline needed to get resolved for good or ended, coz it was too much of a rollercoaster. I do think though that it seems they’ve left it open for Trace to return. I like the storyline with Mick and Megan – redemption like this in a family is refreshing in today’s world, especially on TV. I love the love story, storyline & character arches of David & Jess. Connor is getting smarter & I like that; Bree as well. Kevin & Sarah’s storyline needs some pizzazz. I’d like to see all of… Read more »
After all the sacrifices, after all the pain that Abby put him through, and now she is so unreasonable to drive him away after teasing him with hope at the end of season five. It is very sadistic on the part of Hallmark to end it this way. Most people watched this series just because of the love and emotion of these two people and now having Trace been destroyed, crushed, and basically made to leave his business and all he loved just to avoid maybe killing himself because of the pain and suffering he is made to endure. Sadistic… Read more »
Wow…that’s quite a statement. While I realize this is just an amazing show, sometimes real life can come in to play. And well I live by the adage that “It’s better to be alone for all the right reasons than to be with someone for all the wrong!” And in this instance with Abby and Trace I feel that this statement is perfect for them. Trace needed to follow his dream of being a musician, which is his future, versus chasing the past. That’s why the windshield is bigger than the rear view mirror!
I don’t like the direction the show is going. Trace and Abby were the main reasons I watched it. You gave us four seasons of them together, and then pulled the plug. I don’t blame Jesse for leaving.
I look forward to the new season of Chesapeake shores more than any other show. I will be sad if Trace leaves but maybe they can find another love interest for Abby. I certainly hope it’s not the one thats been hinted at.
What kind of example is there for Abby’s daughters watching her mother go around from men to men while loving Trace accordingly.
After 4 seasons of a great love story they decided to drop it. This was the main reason to watch the show. Soooo I won’t be watching season 5. They have already dropped the show as far as I am concerned.
I totally agree with Leonard Berry’s comment about dropping the love story between Trace and Abby! It was the only reason I recorded and watched all the episodes leading up to Season 5! If episode 2 is the final appearance of Trace (Jesse) on the show I don’t believe my broken heart can watch it or another episode of CS ever again. I will cancel all future series recordings on my DVR today. My heart was broken before when a Hallmark series main characters love story ended so sadly after I followed it a whole season. That series never had… Read more »
I just binge watched every episode from the beginning and I liked Trace as well, but he and Abby were becoming toxic. The new episodes with Robert Buckley as a love interest are very good. You truly should check it out!
I totally agree with you, now I watch other shows. I stop watching “When calls the heart” and now Chesapeake Shores. As you could see it seems to have backfired of them since the ratings of the show are dropping, many are very unhappy with the direction. Unless they get Trace back it looks like this is the end of Chesapeake Shores.
No, Season 5 ended up as the #1 MOST WATCHED SCRIPTED SERIES ON CABLE, so the ratings ended up great.
Please renew Chesapeake Shores. It’s a great series! Let’s continue to follow the O’Brian clan!
Unless they bring back Trace I believe it is over, They had a huge drop in ratings
I didn’t know Jesse was gone. I was looking forward to seeing what happened with him, even without Abby. Better off, if you ask me. I probably won’t watch anymore.
Abby is very boring specially with Trace gone, he really didn’t have a choice but to leave
I also do think that if you put Connor with that Margaret, you will make it worst and then you really will lose viewers
Why is that?
