Once again, Mac comes through in the clinch. CBS has renewed its MacGyver TV show for a third season. Despite a disappointing showing in the demo, the reboot draws a good-sized total audience for the older-skewing Tiffany Network.
A CBS action-adventure drama, MacGyver stars Lucas Till, George Eads, Tristin Mays, Justin Hires, and Meredith Eaton. The reimagined series (the 1985 original starred Richard Dean Anderson) centers on Angus “Mac” MacGyver (Till), a 20-something adventurer. Mac creates a secret organization within the US government. There, he uses his vast scientific knowledge and extraordinary talent for unconventional problem solving to save the world.
MacGyver: A Look at the Ratings
The second season of MacGyver is averaging a 0.85 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.960 million viewers. Compared to season one, that’s down by about 21% and 7%, respectively. Although it ranks 21st out of the 25 scripted CBS TV shows in the demo, it rises to 11th place, in terms of average total viewership.

CBS renewed a total of 11 series, today: Blue Bloods, season nine; Bull, season three; Hawaii Five-0, season nine; Madam Secretary, season five; MacGyver, season three; NCIS: Los Angeles, season 10; NCIS: New Orleans, season five; Survivor, season 37; The Amazing Race, season 31; 48 Hours, season 31; and 60 Minutes, season 51. They join previously renewed series: The Big Bang Theory, season 12; Young Sheldon, season two; Mom, season six; NCIS, season 16; SEAL Team, season two; and SWAT, season two.

Demonstrating strength, stability and depth across the schedule, CBS announced today the renewals of 11 more primetime series for the 2018-2019 season. Combined with previously announced pickups, CBS has now renewed 17 series for next year, including its entire Tuesday and Friday night lineups.

Love the show. The new Mac could use a bit of humilty and I wish he wasn’t always so high tech but still love it. I think the character is in the perfect place for some growth. Maybe bring in his grandfathe as a mentor. Possibly played by Richard Dean Anderson.
Love the show MacGyver. The best show on the air great group of people working together. I watch them over and over. Please keep Riley on the team. Mac, Jack, Riley, Bozer and Matty make a great team.

I love this show and I would probably cry if it is cancelled. It’s my favorite show. The cast is amazing. I am always excited for a new episode.
I grew up with MacGyver from the 80’s, LOVE the reboot!!! I was going to have to cry if they canceled this. So, doing the happy dance we get another year of MacGyver! I love the entire family & hope they all continue & grow for many more seasons to come!

I loved MacGyver as a young teen back in the 80s and 90s and I STILL LOVE MacGyver now in the 2016/17/18 and soon to be 19s as a 40something year old so I am VERY HAPPY it’s being renewed because I just got scared watching tonight’s show!

Well, I enjoy the new MacGyver, which usually means it would have been canceled in the first season because that’s my luck 🙂 Thankfully it is getting a Season 3
We love MacGyver and the whole cast. We loved meeting his dad and hope to see them working together we can hardly wait for the new season.
I think it’s cool he met his dad, but at same time extremely disappointed as I was really expecting the old MacGyver (Richard Dean Anderson). That was a real let down on my end.
