(CBS)
In the fall, Anna Faris left Mom, and now, the long-running sitcom is leaving CBS. The network has announced that the comedy series is ending and that the series finale will air on Thursday, May 6th.
The Mom TV series stars Allison Janney, Mimi Kennedy, Jaime Pressly, Beth Hall, William Fichtner, and Kristen Johnston. Recovering addict Bonnie (Janney) must learn to adjust to life without her daughter and former-roommate, Christy (Faris), around. With a chaotic past behind her and a newly empty nest, Bonnie focuses on her marriage to her husband, Adam (Fichtner), and on what she wants to be now that she’s finally grown up. Now more than ever, Bonnie depends on the support of her friends, including wise Marjorie (Kennedy), wealthy and sometimes misguided Jill (Pressly), overly emotional Wendy (Hall), and her foster sister, Tammy (Johnston), who was recently released from prison. Through it all, these women help each other overcome their mistakes and stay sober in the face of whatever life throws their way.
The eighth season of Mom averages a 0.62 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.07 million viewers. Compared to season seven, that’s down by 22% in the demo and down by 19% in viewership. Seven episodes have aired thus far.
Season eight marks the final year in a two-season renewal from CBS and marks the end of star Janney’s current contract. Despite Faris’ departure, the sitcom still does well for CBS and is the network’s fourth-highest rated comedy.
“For the past eight years, we’ve had the great honor to bring these wonderful characters to life, sharing their struggles and triumphs with millions of viewers every week,” said executive producers Chuck Lorre, Gemma Baker, and Nick Bakay in a statement. “From the beginning, we set out to tell stories about recovery from alcoholism and addiction that are rarely portrayed in a network comedy series. Whether it was the emotional reactions of the live audience on tape night inside Stage 20, or discussions at the White House regarding the opioid crisis, or the personal stories we continue to receive on social media, we take great pride in knowing Mom has positively impacted so many lives. We are forever grateful to our brilliant cast and guest stars, wonderful writers, and amazing crew for going on this journey with us.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of the Mom TV series? Would you have watched a ninth season or, is it time to say goodbye?
Nooooo Don’t cancel MOM there are so many directions this show can continue on with. It’s still very funny and we love it. I agree with PAULINE below, they keep the crap shows and get rid of all our comedies. Please don’t cancel this Gem of a show, i want to see so much more. NOT FAIR.
Indeed the mother/daughter relationship was at the heart of the show, but with such outstanding talent, solid writing, and excellent characters, it would work with Anna Faris’ departure. I was actually starting to enjoy the supporting characters even more than the main ones! Keep it going!
Please don’t cancel Mom. It’s great. The characters are all strong.
There’s lots of stories to be told about alcohols.
And you’ve left lots a room to expand characters and their stories.
You did this with Mike & Molly. You could’ve easily replaced Molly.
The rest of that cast was very funny ..
Please don’t make that mistake again.
This sucks, even without Anna Faris, this show was still funny and entertaining, so sorry to see it go. But that’s the way these networks are, if it doesn’t bring a load of money, get rid of it, they don’t care and they keep the sucky shoes on. If its not reality shows like the Bachelor or ******* fighting in rooms/houses, then get rid of them, what the hell is this world coming to.
I swear you keep all these reality shows like Bachelor but every dang time a comedy show comes along BOOM You cancel it !! It was still a great show and these actors /actresses give their all and Anna leaves and you treat them like dirt. You act like they don’t possess enough talent to carry this show and THEY ALL DO !! These stupid reality shows are just taking over . Man With A Plan- GONE !! MOM- GONE . Stop taking ALLthe half hour comedies away !!
I agree. I watch No reality shows. I know lots of people do- that’s why they keep that crap.
Best tv series ever sad the journey is over
I liked it better with Christy and the kids and Baxter and his new lady. Mostly without Christy it has lost something. I did like it.
Ok
Fine
I really enjoy this show and will hate to see it go. The writing and acting is very good
It’s not the same without the interaction between Cristy and Bonnie.
I love it!!!
Love the show, the only good really fun one on TV at the moment a d would hate to see it end. I would definitely watch season 9 and beyond.please please keep it going, all the good shows you take off and leave he crappy ones on. Soon there will be nothing left to watch, that’s funny and nice to watch
I LOVE Mom and don’t want it to end!!!
I don’t want Mom to end I’ve been watching all seasons! Please don’t cancel Mom;(
I love MOM. I hate that you’re cancelling it. In all honesty, the character of Christy was changing to the point of annoyance, & I was glad when she left. I love the addition of Tammy. This show was so original. I hope that the network has 2nd thoughts & doesn’t cancel this show. They need to give it more of a chance w/o Christy. It has so many possibilities!!!
Please don’t end MOM! It is the funniest show on TV! I can relate to some of their drunken nights! If you need more stories! LOL! Plus it has heartwarming stories about real issues that women face! & it shows that no matter how bad we have been that people can change & become better people! GREAT ENTERTAINMENT I HAVE EXPERIENCED SO MANY BELLY LAUGHS WATCHING THESE LADIES! WE NEED THIS SHOW!
