Some big changes are coming to The Good Doctor. TVLine reports both Nicholas Gonzalez and Jasika Nicole are leaving the ABC TV show after season three.
Gonzalez plays Neil Melendez and Nicole plays Carly Lever on the medical drama, which focuses on Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore), a young surgeon with autism and savant syndrome. The cast also includes Antonia Thomas, Hill Harper, Richard Schiff, Christina Chang, Fiona Gubelmann, Will Yun Lee, and Paige Spara.
WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW!
If you watched the season three finale of The Good Doctor, you won’t be surprised as to why Nicholas Gonzalez is leaving. During the episode, his character died after a tragic accident. As for Jasika Nicole, the reason for her exit is a little more unclear. EP David Shore told TVLine that while Nicole won’t be returning as a series regular for season four, he “would love to see her on the show, but it will not be in the same capacity.”would love to see her on the show, but it will not be in the same capacity.”
And what can fans expect from season four of the ABC TV show? Shore told TVLine we will see Shaun in a different light:
I think we’re going to be putting him in more of a supervisory role in Season 4 and see how he rises to that challenge. And, of course, the relationship [between Shaun and Lea]. Exploring that, as we discussed earlier, will be a big part of it.”
What do you think? Do you watch The Good Doctor? Are you excited for season four?
I cannot believe we lost 2 of the best characters on the show…. Melendez and, it appears, Park!!! Show focuses so much on Claire… I don’t like her. Best thing about Melendez leaving is that we don’t have to watch him hook up with that rule-breaking, holier-than-thou pain. Would have so preferred you left him with Lim.
I think I am done with watching.
Great show please renewed it let it start early than 10. Love to all
I really like the show and the characters on it. Sorry to see Gonzalez leaving. I really liked his character. Although there is mention of 2 characters leaving the show, after watching the last episode of season 3, it leaves you with the impression that Dr. Alex is leaving to be closer to his family and Dr. Morgan can no longer operate. Since I see no mention of their characters, does this mean they will remain on the show?
I love this show! I’m a baby boomer which means that I like when shows half a meaning, not just because I made this show and that’s it. There are more of these that give us a message of life. That’s why I love Dr. Murphy. ❤
Love the Good Doctor , I watch for Freddie Highmore , he s so good at this character. I love that he and Leah got together . Good things for the show will come of this. I will be very excited to see this series return .i also love Claire she s a wonderful actress.
Killing of melendez was a bad idea this show not only focuses on Shawn but also on the other characters as well nd melendez also plays an important role in shawns life too as another mentor to u sld consider the audiences perspective too as this show is for our entertainment I think our views shld be considered too.
Less excited about the new season than before these announcements … enough change in the reality around me, would prefer to have seen some stability in my leisure-time viewing.
I have watched from the beginning. If they kill off Dr Melendez I will no longer be watching the show. Letting him go is a BIG MISTAKE!
I love Dr Melendez… please, please, please… personally, I was hoping for Lea’s demise… sorry
I love Dr Melendez and I hate Leah… Not looking forward to Season 4
Looking foward to season 4 …Shaun and Carly need each other in more ways than one…
I wish they would not kill Dr Melendez off. You guys found the right cast for the show. I hope you decide to bring him back, you didn’t show he pass away. Please listen to you audience or you will lose people from watching. We finally found a show that wasn’t stupid to many show that are SO PLEASE LISTEN TO THE AUDIENCE
Dr. Shaun Murphy is the most fascinating, empathetic character ever introduced to television; the only fictional role who gifts me perpetual laughter and tears; his “autism” has opened avenues of understanding, educating the masses of its vicissitudes and glories.
The finale was a touch too bleak, in the time of
Covid-19, but its hiatus leaves one longing for its return.
Thank you,
Penelope Steiner
Sono molto delusa che hanno finito il ruolo di Dott. Milendez, un ruolo importante, sono triste che mi è passata di guardare ancora!!
What an idiotic move to kill off such a great actor! I hoped he wanted to leave and we could be disappointed in him. But you did that to your own successful show? Big mistake! Unbelievable!!
NOT MANY characters to connect with as is
So getting rid of Dr Melendez HUGE MISTAKE
.
