Our Kind of People wrapped its first season on FOX this week, and viewers are wondering if a second season is possible. The series ended with a shocker, which would leave fans with an unresolved cliffhanger if the low-rated show were to be cancelled.
Starring Yaya DaCosta, Morris Chestnut, Joe Morton, Nadine Ellis, Lance Gross, Rhyon Nicole Brown, Kyle Bary, and Alana Bright, the series follows an enterprising and single mother named Angela Vaughn (DaCosta) in a fictional town near Martha’s Vineyard.
Karin Gist, the creator of the FOX drama, said the following about the future of the series, per Deadline:
“Knock on wood that we get a season two. The studio and the network have been so supportive. I think they’re creatively happy with the show, so I think it’s a really good and positive sign. I have lots of great ideas for season two that I’ll be pitching very soon. I’m very, very encouraged by the possibility of continuing to tell this story because I think we still have so much more to do.”
Gist also teased about what fans would see happen in the second season of Our Kind of People:
“If we get a second season, it’s going to be even more explosive. There will be more family complications, about the sisters, and bringing the family back together. I’m also excited about adding some new characters that shake up the world a bit and exploring the themes of power and access. I think that’s really relevant to what’s going on in our country, particularly through the lens of this really wealthy African American family. I’m really excited about where we could take this show and I know the audience is too.”
Ratings for the series were up for the season finale but the show’s been one of FOX’s lowest-rated shows of the season. A decision on the series’ future will likely be made by May.
What do you think? Do you want to watch a second season of Our Kind of People on FOX?
Too many family dynamics unanswered to not renew. The acting , the interacting , the fashions and the ruthlessness swathed in love is mesmerizing. There has been a subtle buildup and I and many others can’t wait to see what’s in store. There are many many FB pages dedicated to discussions of the plot lines, we all vote for a season two and beyond !
Please continue Our Kind of People! I loved it!
Yes! Second season please!!!
I absolutely love this show! It’s wonderful to see an African American cast of such stature and although there is drama, as in any family, they aren’t running around in the “normal” uncouth ways we are often portrayed. If this were an all white cast, same storyline, people would eat it up. It’s sad that in these times, people still seem to have an issue. I can’t wait to see how this all unfolds in season 2! Please keep or at least pick up on a different network….Netflix, Hulu?
This was one of my favorite shows this season I loved every episode the build up was not as predictable as some shows I truly want and need another season.
I’ve enjoyed the show. So many personalities, relationships, complications….. hoping for a season 2! Some things are a tad exaggerated but I’ve liked it.
Please renew this show! It’s a great show and my Sister and I love it. The story line and acting is wonderful!
Yes please bring it back for season 2 i love the show
I love love love it. I will be so disappointed if the network cancels another good show. I love the representation, the story line, and the freshness of the show.
I have thoroughly enjoyed each episode! I don’t find it boring at all because there are so many different relationships and situations involved…each episode of Season 1 has been action-packed with a new twist or turn inserted that alters what we think is reality for these characters. VERY well written AND acted! Please do not cancel!
I absolutely love Our Kind of People. I don’t want it cancelled. Great actors and writers!
Easy decision, CANCEL the show
A season 1 show that premieres in the fall and doesn’t get any additional episodes ordered is a good as canceled.
I thought it was already cancelled.
Good riddance to this how. Boring, phony and uninteresting. I stopped watching it after 2 episodes. Yaya should have stayed on Chicago Med.
I don’t need a season 2,. This show is trash. The writers and producers had a great storyline and messed it up..!i predicted everything.
I think the show is great as it shows Black people who live in the upper echelon of society who live their lives as many white people who are in this social level of society. Only narrow minded whites and blacks would be bored with this because they only view blacks in gangster roles, comedy roles or demeaning roles as maids, butlers and prostitutes. This series will educate them as you enlighten and broaden their scope of a diverse world. Kudos to the writers.
Amen and thank you!!
