The story of Jack Parsons has come to a premature end on television. CBS All Access has cancelled its Strange Angel TV series so there won’t be a third season.
A historical period drama, Strange Angel stars Jack Reynor, Rupert Friend, Bella Heathcote, Peter Mark Kendall, Peter Mark Kendall, Michael Gaston, Greg Wise, Angus Macfadyen, Laine Neil, and Veronica Osorio. Based on the book by George Pendle, the series is inspired by the true story of Caltech’s Jack Parsons (Reynor) and his experiences in the worlds of science, science fiction, and the occult. In season two, with World War II in full swing, Jack’s rocketry work is turning a profit. While he’s part of the military-industrial complex by day, at night, he and his wife Susan (Heathcote) get deeper into their occult religion and they invite the sex cult into their mansion. Jack also begins a personal relationship with the cult’s founder, Aleister Crowley (Macfadyen).
The Strange Activity series debuted in June 2018 and the first season ran for 10 episodes. The second season debuted in June of this year and ran for just seven installments. This marks the second cancellation by the streaming service. One Dollar was dropped after one season in December 2018.
“Strange Angel will not be returning for a third season,” said Julie McNamara, EVP of Original Content for CBS All Access. “The series brought new meaning to the idea that the truth is stranger than fiction and we are incredibly thankful to the creative team of Mark Heyman, David DiGilio, Ridley Scott and David W. Zucker for their vision, as well as the fantastic cast for bringing the bizarre story of Jack Parsons to life.”
What do you think? Did you enjoy the Strange Angel TV show? Are you sorry to hear that it’s been cancelled?
Really, really disappointed that this is being cancelled. Even though alot of it was somewhat fictionalized and not exactly what happened IRL, it was really interesting and well produced. Loved all the characters and the actors portraying them. Please reconsider CBS! Amazon or Netflix, grab it like you did with Lucifer!
In a time when we are flooded with way too many crime shows, it was nice to something with some history and intrigue. The characters were well developed and the backstory was surprizingly accurate. Very dissappointed that the show as cancelled.
I will stay with CBS AllAccess for now because of Discovery and Piccard. But that’s pretty much it.
This show was the only reason why I even decided to pay for a membership the CBS online. Without it, there is no point to continuing to pay for it. It was one of the only series that was worth paying for.
I canceled my CBS All Access after they canceled this show. **** em they don’t know good television even when it’s on their own channel.
It’s to great dismay you’re not continuing to add more to one of most prolific story of those who created many Institutions In the name of science. Parson, brought forth a solid rocket fuel that changed propulsion from merely piston engines Into what powered all travel Including the moon. I really hope you find whatever It takes to carry on.
Very disappointed to here this series had been cancelled.
I was looking forward to Season 3 with Hubbard coming into the picture. I will drop my
All Access subscription. Strange Angel was too good to just ax it!
very disgruntled, series was hotting up for more, high production values, great cast, hope someone picks up strange angel season 3.top quality, will probably be replaced with mainstream crap
I DEFINITELY now have no reason to continue with a CBS All Access subscription. I do get a kick out of Star Trek Discovery, but one show (with what seems to be a full year between seasons) is NOT worth the cost of subscription, THAT’S for sure! I LOVED Strange Angel, its cast and its fantastic stories, and will truly miss it.
🙁
That’s the difference at CBS, don’t close out a series just abruptly cut it off, well that’s what I’m doing to all access now!
It was a heavy content filled show. My husband and I were intrigued watching it and are disappointed to see it will not return. I guess truth of deviant behavior is hard to accept. Sad the show has been cancelled!
I canceled my CBS all access upon hearing they won’t renew the season.
No one is going to convince me that this very popular and daring show was axed without the intervention of The Church of Scientology. If the story of LRH and his alliance with Parsons
and magick was to become a prime time thing, there would be, no doubt at all, serious repercussions from the Church. They probably threatened CBS All Access with a host of potential law suits.
My partner and I really enjoyed this TV series and we are disappointed that there will be no further season.. Admittedly, sometimes it was difficult to switch from the cult subject to the matter of making rockets etc., but overall it was a very imaginative and engrossing series.
I thoroughly enjoyed Strange Angel and was definitely hoping for a third season. Although the plot line seemed to diverge more and more into a fictional narrative as the series continued, it was generally very imaginative and innovative, considering the subject matter. I applaud CBS All Access for airing such a controversial series, and look forward to viewing the previous episodes again to gain further insight into the cultural perspective that the series held about Jack Parsons and his ilk. It was a good run while it lasted! By the way, I was a personal acquaintance of Cameron Parsons, who… Read more »
I was hoping they portrayed Cameron in the next season…her story is as compelling as Jack’s as far as I’m concerned. Interesting comment above speculating that Scientologists may have shut this show down before it got to the L. Ron bit.
I kept hoping the series would get to the Cameron story…as it is equally compelling in my opinion.
