SWAT returns to CBS for its seventh and final season next week, but star Shemar Moore says there’s a chance the procedural action series may not end with its upcoming season.
Starring Moore, Alex Russell, Jay Harrington, Kenny Johnson, David Lim, and Patrick St. Esprit, SWAT follows Sergeant Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson (Moore) as he runs the Special Weapons and Tactics Unit of the LAPD.
Moore said the following about the CBS series to ET Online:
“Thirty years in the game and the longest I’ve been unemployed is four months and so, I’ve just stayed in the game, at whatever level.
[I’ve had] seven years on a really fun show. The word on the street is that this is the end, but I’m an optimist. We had a resurgence, and Netflix took us on, and Howard Stern’s talking about us… it’s great.
So, if this is the final season, then I just say thank you and it’s been an incredible run playing tough guy Daniel ‘Hondo’ Harrelson. Obviously, I’m biased. There’s no such thing as a perfect show but I do think we make a very unique show. It’s like watching an action movie but on TV. It’s fun to go save the day and chase the bad guys but we do some exciting things. …
We’re little kids playing super cops. I mean, we really are having a good time. So we hate to see it go. But again, I’m not quite sure it’s the end, but that’s just me. I know that the door is not completely closed.
I want to keep making the show because there’s so many stories and and we are resonating around the world, literally.. I’m just proud of that and grateful to be able to do something that people worldwide are moved by. …
We premiere shortly after the Super Bowl. And if the numbers are good, maybe we’ll change some minds and maybe we can keep on trucking,”
SWAT returns to CBS on February 16th.
What do you think? Have you enjoyed this CBS series? Would you like to see an eighth season of SWAT?
I will be forever grateful that the 2017 version of “S.W.A.T.” outlasted the original 1975 version of “S.W.A.T.”. I’ve had my doubts about it eventually getting a decent send-off by CBS over the years, mainly due to its below-average ratings/viewership, as proven by its cancellation at the end of its season six before that decision was reversed. I am also grateful for Shemar Moore ending-up on another long-running show after leaving “Criminal Minds” (which I’ve refused to watch because of its all-uppercase closed-captioning, which “S.W.A.T. 2017” thankfully doesn’t have (the all-caps captions on “CM” are gone on recent cable reruns)).… Read more »
I love SWAT. Don’t cancel SWAT for any reason!!!!!!
Great show, great characters and sets good role models for children,to do the right thing and to care about. It has so many good features it would be a mistake to cancel.
Please do not make this the last year of SWAT. One of the best shows on TV.
I do hope that some network has the brains to pick up this excellent show. Please do not cancel SWAT!!
I love S.W.A.T please do not let it be ending . It is a great show to watch . Everyone in the show is great .
Great show should never be canceled
SWAT is one of the best shows I’ve ever watched on TV – LOVE IT! Seriously hope it keeps going. It’s so well written & has fantastic actors. It’s consistently exciting!
I hope Swat doesn’t end with this season. I hope gets more seasons.
There are so many bad shows on TV these days but I love this show!! I hope it gets renewed.
My only comment would be less personal life of the characters and more SWAT action.
Which of the two do you think is more expensive to put on the screen?
Shemar Moore popped up on my radar during Criminal Minds. He always seems to be an Up Person and worked to help get the team out of jams – alive. If you want to keep a series going you need not-tired, energetic writers who know how to get to that next piece of a story, keeping events linked from one to the next, leaving viewers imagining what to expect next. True Crime is a big thing these days with so much of it happening in so many different walks of life with open borders, MS-13 Gangs, Terrorists, Enemy Agents, Gun,… Read more »
Keep the show
Glad we get a short season 7 for closure, but I hope by chance it gets another renewal.
Hope a network picks up the show.
