The daytime soaps are the latest television properties to shut down filming in face of the coronavirus. This has soap fans wondering just how long their soaps will remain on the air before episodes run out.
Days of Our Lives is the last of the soaps to announced a shutdown, per Deadline. The soap was already on a planned two-week hiatus, but now that hiatus has been extended. Fans of that series have nothing to worry about though. Days has enough episodes for the soap to continue airing on NBC through October.
As for General Hospital, Young and the Restless, and The Bold and the Beautiful, those soaps have a lot fewer episodes in the can. TV Line reported that the ABC soap has enough episodes already taped to keep the series on the air through the end of May.
As for the two CBS soaps, they have enough episodes to last four to six weeks. That means they will run out of episodes in early May.
At this time, the shut down is for at least two weeks. Those behind the soaps are monitoring reports so, a specific date to resume to production is up in the air.
What do you think? Are you a daytime soap fan? What will you watch if they are taken off the air?
Are they bringing are soaps back when the virus is over
Please return our soaps we enjoy them and if they were taken off i would be devastated I have watch them sense I was a little girl watching with my grandmother ! That was our way of begin together and if you take them off it would be like you were canceling with my grwndmother ! Please return them! I dont mined watching reruns because they bring back memories that are close and near to my heart !
I watch ALL 4 of the existing soaps, and I am unable to watch them because of politicians taking over the airwaves. First Trump’s impeachment, and now covid-19. I catch up on demand, or by streaming. A lot of people do not have access to on demand or streaming. I would be devastated if they were cancelled. I am STILL not over All My Children and One Life to Live being cancelled. Please – air reruns – even from the beginning would be fantastic. There are so many fans out there – for each show. The characters are our families.… Read more »
I say it again start Y&R from the first episode and show up thru current day! Let the current fans see the history of the show and I know it will go over very well. I for one would love to see the first show thru the current day to see again how life has changed in Genoa City and we get to revisit all the battles between characters once again!!
I say start Y&R from the beginning and show all the shows in order so the newer fans can get caught up in the history of Genoa City. I myself wouldn’t mind seeing a regular old time viewing until the pandemic is over but start from the beginning not midway through. FANS WOULD LOVE IT!!! I know I would!
Agree with Karen Adam. Let’s revisit the soaps from their original episodes.
I have been watching GH for about 40 years. I also used to watch AMC and Another World. I would like to see some early episodes of GH. Maybe start the series over from the beginning. I would love to see the early characters.
Why not show BB and YR from the beginning? It would be fun to watch.
I hope that the young and restless returns but maybe they can write out some of the cast. Billy, hope, and Theo need to be gone. I always thought actors had to have a talent but those three must be related to the owners. Because they are such awful actors. The show has always been classy but those three are slimm balls.
I’ve been warching Y&R for 38 years! When it does return I will be thrilled
The Y&R cast is family to me…
I would like to see them continue from the first episode and continue up to current shows but show them in order and today’s fans get to see the history of Genoa City to modern day!
During this health crisis, I wish the networks would consider airing 2-3 episodes a week (instead of 5), in order to stretch out the time period during which their audiences would be able to enjoy new episodes. (The networks could air game show repeats on the alternate days).
I think it might be fun to see early episodes during this hiatus. Could help us learn back stories on lots of characters. I started watching in the 90s and Y and R looks like it’s been on since the 70s. Let’s go back in time!
I agree with Mary, please rerun b&b and y&r from the very beginning, that way I can catch up on what I missed, all the talk shows are showing reruns why can’t we have reruns until these soaps can air again where they left off at., it’s only common sense for die hard fans, please don’t run soap operas that have been cancelled or other shows in its place…..
I agree they should start from the first episode
I be devestate if they run out
Huge fan of General Hospital. Hate that where I live, suburban Philadelphia, constantly interrupts for Coronavirus updates
Please fine a way to keep it going
