Actor Steve Burton is leaving The Young and the Restless on CBS. Expect his final episode to air in December. Burton has played Dylan McAvoy for the last four years on the soap opera, but is best known for playing Jason Quartermaine aka Jason Morgan on ABC‘s General Hospital, between 1991 and 2012. The actor announced his departure on Twitter.
Returning to Port Charles may not be a done deal. Two years after Burton departed for Genoa City, popular Y&R vet Billy Miller joined GH, first as amnesiac Jake Doe. The storyline made it clear that Doe — who had undergone facial reconstruction surgery after being run over — was Jason.
Fans sat through a long, drawn out reveal that Jake was Jason. They then waited seemingly forever for the character to regain his memories and reunite with wife Sam McCall Morgan (Kelly Monaco).
Burton came from GH to Y&R along with Jill Farren Phelps, who executive produced from 2012, until she and Charles Pratt, Jr. were fired, in June. The duo was replaced by Mal Young who, along with new headwriter Sally Sussman Morina, has brought back Elizabeth Hendrickson and Michael Graziadei as Chloe Mitchell and Daniel Romalotti.
Burton lives in Nashville, TN. Under Phelps, he had a taping schedule which allowed him more time at home with his family. It is likely the new regime did not agree to that accommodation.
Burton posted three tweets on his exit. Taken together, his message reads: “Hey everyone, with lots of reflection, I have decided to move on from @YandR_CBS at the end of my contract in Dec. I’ve had an amazing time, but it feels right to move on to new adventures in my life. I can’t say enough about the AWESOME cast and crew. Much respect! Much luv to @CBSDaytime for the great ride. Y&R is still recovering from the loss of Justin Hartley, who played Adam Newman. Hartley is in the cast of NBC‘s new hit show, This Is Us.

While the new Jason on GH is a good actor SB is the better of the two. He had amazing chemistry with Sam and even the acting between Sonny and SB is better.
GH has ever been the same, with writing Steve Burton from the show . Bring him back.

While the current Jason is good, the old Jason and Sam had this unbelievable chemistry! They were even voted in the top 10 all time favorite couples. That says it all. Liz and Fitz on Scandal are the only on screen couple that can compare to the original Jasam. I still have Jasam marathons on YouTube!
Steve Burton made his choice to leave GH. Billy Miller has turned into a very likeable Jason and he also fits with “Sam”. Just because SB decided to leave Y&R, does that mean you just kick out a good actor that filled the role for 4 years?
Don’t get me wrong, I like Billy as Jason on General Hospital, but Steve Burton will aleay be the better Jason. I hope he returns as Jason on General hospital. His character Dylan on Y&R wasn’t for him. He’s better as Jason on GH

I really want the old Jason back on General Hospital it has never been the same. The new Jason is still goofy looking and it’s still Billy. Please bring Dylan back but if it’s not that sexy OG Jason. Please find a sexy replacement
I think the guys should flip again. Steve works best on GH and Billy is best on Y&R.
Steve Burton is an awesome actor and if he is leaving Y&R, he HAS to go back to GH as Jason Morgan…..the new Jason has just never filled the bill….maybe it could come out that his character fooled Port Charles into believing he’d had facial reconstruction and keep on acting as another villain……maybe somebody related to Valentin Cassadine’s reveal?
Dylan is such a boring character!! I do wish he was returning to General Hospital as Jason

Steve Burton is great in the role of Dylan. I’m really disappointed to see him leave. Wondering if Dylan now will be ‘killed’ in Miami or if there will be another plastic surgery replacement for Dylan. That’s getting old.
I would like to see Steve Burton recast as Jason on GH.
I would like to see him recast as Jason. It would be great if they could find a way at y&r to recast Billy as Dylan . Both men are great actors, but Billy does not play Jason as well as Steve Burton.
When Steve Burton played Jason he had no real personality, he was quite, dark , had no interaction with no one but Sonny, had a good relationship with Sam but that was all, Billy has interaction with almost everybody and still does the mob thing, seemed like Burton just sat around waiting for Sonny to tell him he had a job for him, he didn’t do anything else
