Television history is littered with TV shows that have, for one reason or another, lost their lead actors. Some series are cancelled within a year while other shows continue on for many more seasons. What will become of this CW show? Will Batwoman be cancelled or renewed for season three? Stay tuned. *Status Update Below.
A superhero drama, Batwoman stars Javicia Leslie, Dougray Scott, Rachel Skarsten, Meagan Tandy, Nicole Kang, and Camrus Johnson. The show is based on the DC Comics character and initially revolved around Kate Kane (Ruby Rose), a strong woman who never planned to be Gotham’s new vigilante — Batwoman. In the second season, Ryan Wilder (Leslie) discovers Kate’s Batsuit and sees it as her chance to finally be powerful and no longer a victim as she survives in the tough streets of Gotham. Kate has gone missing and citizens of Gotham believe Batwoman has fled the city following a public stand-off with Commander Jacob Kane (Scott) and the Crows. Kate’s disappearance hits hardest at home where Jacob, Sophie (Tandy), Luke (Johnson), Mary (Kang) and even Alice (Skarsten) each struggle with the devastating news in their own way. Meanwhile, the False Face Society tightens its grip on Gotham distributing a perilous new drug known as Snakebite, “Bruce Wayne” (Warren Christie) finds his way home to wreak havoc, Safiyah (Shivaani Ghai) surfaces with plans for revenge, and a new set of villains descends on the city. It’s clear that Batwoman is needed.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s chances of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: Season one of Batwoman on The CW averaged a 0.26 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 995,000 viewers.
Note: These are the final national numbers (unless noted with an “*”). These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
What do you think? Do you like the Batwoman TV series on The CW? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a third season?
*2/3/21 update: Batwoman has been renewed for a third season on The CW.
I am genuinely so baffled by this show’s decision making. It is chaotic, half-cooked, and does such a genuine disservice to the source material that I’m utterly gobsmacked it’s getting a third season. What an absolute disappointment for any actual Batwoman fan.
I think Ruby Rose’s Instagram post on making avocado toast may have gotten more views than the Batwoman S2 finale.
The ‘heroes’ in this show have to be validated by belittling their predecessors. The first Batwoman was apparently “better” than Batman. Now the new Batwoman is being validated by the previous Batwoman becoming a moustache twirling villain (if she could grow a moustache), it seems. It’s a pity, because in the comics Batman and Batwoman co-exist. They have family dramas from time to time, and team-up every so often, but mostly they just ignore each other. And they definitely don’t wear each other’s batsuits. Never seen comics Batwoman just allow Alice to wander Gotham freely either. She’s either institutionalised, or… Read more »
The Alice part has grown stale. Move on writers.
Quite possibly the worst program I have ever had the misfortune to watch.
No show is perfect, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen another that is this inept.
The script is awful
The acting is awful
The Direction is awful
I understand that CW shows are made on the cheap to please a mainly 16-21 year old female audience who care more about relationships and romance than a serious comic book storyline, but this show is rotten even by CW standards.
The truth is everyone start criticizing bcuz Ruby Rose left. The show is great and i Hope many seasons to come
lol this show has been criticized since day one. The show has never been well written. Rose herself is not a charismatic actress, but she was at least a name and the star of the show. The truth is the show never should have been renewed for a second season, especially when its star was not returning and the ratings already were sinking like a stone.
I just have to say, I thought Rose was a great actress with unique acting that was still good. I think she really pulled off portraying a tough, tomboy character, and I liked her character because of that and because you rarely see leading actresses in movies and TV shows being so purely tomboy. The reasoning for her seeming un-charismatic, I think that would be because it was the first season (if she had stayed on, I believe she would have grown into her character a lot more). They really could have made season 1 better, though. I personally cut… Read more »
I don’t understand how Batwoman is supposed to be a hero in this TV series. In ep12 of this season she teamed-up with Alice to find her GF and Alice’s BF. All good so far. But then when she fights brain-washed Kate, Alice saves Batwoman from Kate. Then Kate turns on Alice, and Alice calls for help. But Batwoman says “good luck with that”, and walks away, even as Alice pleads (and apologises for killing Batwoman’s mother). Not saying Batwoman should forgive Alice for her crimes, but walking away like that, even after Alice just saved her moments ago and… Read more »
Alice murdered dozens of people and is known as a serial killer/terrorist in Gotham leaving her to be killed is not the worst thing for Gotham’s populous.
According to the CW, walking away from your problems is a heroic action. Got it.
Guess this explains why Batman left Gotham in this series.
Well, I guess it’s good news for Ruby Rose. She clearly wasn’t the problem with this show. Perhaps the writers, directors and producers?
this is one of the most entertaining shows in terms of rating monitoring. will it go bellow 300k until the end of the season or not? that’s the question
Never watched this show, but I thought your comment was funny.
This show took a nose dive this season. I was shocked when I heard it was renewed. The story was all over the place and felt like they were juggling jello. I tried to give it a chance. I lasted till I began wanting exploratory root canals over this mess. I don’t really care about the box ticker everyone comments on. I’m the targeted demographic and liked the first season. This season felt like the experiment of filling a room with a million Chimpanzees with a million type writers and each episode is their combined work. The show needs to… Read more »
Worst CW show this crap ruined a Ionic LBGT+ DC character instead of making it popular
worst CW hero show
I LOVE THIS SHOW NOT A LOT OF BLACKS HERO SHOW ON TV THES DAYS HOPE THIS SHOW STAY ON I LIKE IT START WATCHING IT BATWOMAN KICK SOME BUTT
Loved It too
.
It’s rather hilarious and extremely sad and pathetic that they are patting themselves on the back, because they think they’re making the bestest show evar, yet with each episode, the viewership keeps dropping down, down and down. What is just as sad and pathetic, is that they renewed the show for a third season after just a few episodes, despite extremely weak starting viewer performance, which was dropping off with each episode! It used to be that when a show got closer to its end run for a season, they would assess the shows performance and only then make a… Read more »
I don’t think they care about ratings. The have become platforms to push their message and have become an expensive echo chamber. Sadly good storytelling has gone the way of dinosaurs.
I just looked at the ratings. How does this stay on the air? Think of all the shows that used to get cancelled with ratings over a 1.0 Someone said it was just renewed for a third season.
With two more seasons, maybe the writers will eventually find something decent to do with this. It doesn’t look like that’s going to happen in season two, though.
Given how much the ratings have been nosediving, this renewal suggests that CW must have invested a lot to acquire the Batwoman IP.
No acquirement, CW is part of DC. Time Warner no longer gate keeping the Batman brand is a huge problem.
Cw isn’t part of DC. CW is owned 50% by Warner that is also the owner of DC.
What happened on the d episode that made so many people jump off this tv show?
Seriously, seems like it won’t recover the audience
It was the third and fifth episodes which saw huge dropoffs after they aired. I’m keeping quiet about the reasons I think this happened, so as not to trigger the Alphabet Crowd.
If they bring back Kate Kane, I know I would start tuning in again, but I can’t speak for everyone and who knows if that’ll ever happen. I’m hoping that somehow they are able to bring her back though, because the show really isn’t the same without the original leading actor.
