The story of Jack Parsons has come to a premature end on television. CBS All Access has cancelled its Strange Angel TV series so there won’t be a third season.
A historical period drama, Strange Angel stars Jack Reynor, Rupert Friend, Bella Heathcote, Peter Mark Kendall, Peter Mark Kendall, Michael Gaston, Greg Wise, Angus Macfadyen, Laine Neil, and Veronica Osorio. Based on the book by George Pendle, the series is inspired by the true story of Caltech’s Jack Parsons (Reynor) and his experiences in the worlds of science, science fiction, and the occult. In season two, with World War II in full swing, Jack’s rocketry work is turning a profit. While he’s part of the military-industrial complex by day, at night, he and his wife Susan (Heathcote) get deeper into their occult religion and they invite the sex cult into their mansion. Jack also begins a personal relationship with the cult’s founder, Aleister Crowley (Macfadyen).
The Strange Activity series debuted in June 2018 and the first season ran for 10 episodes. The second season debuted in June of this year and ran for just seven installments. This marks the second cancellation by the streaming service. One Dollar was dropped after one season in December 2018.
“Strange Angel will not be returning for a third season,” said Julie McNamara, EVP of Original Content for CBS All Access. “The series brought new meaning to the idea that the truth is stranger than fiction and we are incredibly thankful to the creative team of Mark Heyman, David DiGilio, Ridley Scott and David W. Zucker for their vision, as well as the fantastic cast for bringing the bizarre story of Jack Parsons to life.”
What do you think? Did you enjoy the Strange Angel TV show? Are you sorry to hear that it’s been cancelled?
It figures that the executive nimrods of this station couldn’t appreciate an non-formala series that was actually riveting and true.
Strange angel was a riveting series and the best I have ever seen on television. That’s probably why it was cancelled other than this censorship by Scientology. After all we don’t want to find out who L Ron Hubbard really is which would have been the next season 3. IaI am hopeful that fan support will bring the show back. It is superbly written and riveting as I said above. If you have a mind of your own please support this series. If you don’t, don’t bother.
They should not have axed it, this show in my opinion one of the best television series to have ever been released. Not many people I speak to even know of its existence, it wasn’t marketed well from the jump. It’s superior to even Breaking Bad, I thought I had found a gem of a television series. IMDB needs to update their info on it because seeing season 3 listed got me ecstatic, but then the big let down. Cancelling CBS All Access tonight.
The only reason to pay for all access as this series – Strange Angel was first interesting thing they have done in my adult life (I’m in my late 50’s) And likely also the last.
Well, that makes my decision to cancel CBS all access even easier. I LOVED this series!
Can’t understand this decision at all, except something politically motivated. They’re shooting their own leg. To be honest, first season was a little slow, but the second season was absolutely fantastic. A stunner. One of the best seasons of any series I’ve ever watched. Do I need to mention that the main male character is super charismatic, just as the female one is extremely “easy on the eyes”, all with great acting? To cut it now when they’re at their best with promise of even better season with Hubbard in the mix, makes zero sense.
This is corporate not wishing to deal with ElRon Hubbard chapter and the litigious Bemouth Scientology. So much for adventurous innovative programing CBS has let us and itself down.
Its obvious CBS All Access was told to drop it as soon as the visitor arrived, Lafayette Ron Hubbard knocked. He was there in real life at the doorstep of Parsons. He moved in with them and he did rituals with Jack to invoke Babalon using sex magic. He took along one of Jacks women, when he left. A Northrop daughter, who helped L. Ron Hubbard start Scientology. Of course they were threatened with a law suite by Scientology. But, if one was interested in reading about it, there is stuff out there.
Great show with good acting.. I’m sorry there isn’t a season 3. Simply don’t understand why CBS would cancel a show that was so full of creative drama. Completely makes no sense.
I am so sorry they discontinue this particular show strange angel. They made a grave mistake in canceling that. Once Picard is over I will be canceling CBS all Access..to not complete the story to end strange Angels like this is pathetic. So much more to tell. With such a cast assembled it’s a waste.
Already cancelled mine. Not worth $9.99 monthly fee. Not enough original contents to keep me paying.
I am so sick of these media outlets dangling one or two seasons of a show, then they drop the whole thing. No loyalty to the viewers at all. I will continue to ignore the ton of streaming services out there. Right now, I only have two. I have canceled all the others, including CBS All Access.
The future history of the human race pivots on this man, Jack Parsons, who everyone should know about. It’s a shame CBS didn’t see fit to give us a conclusion to his story. It’s an important part of history.
Its because of Lafayette Ron Hubbard comung into the scene. Scientology doesn’t want that out. They were thrratened with a lawsuit no doubt.
You got it!
Best show I’ve seen in ages. Un cancel it please
I am so so disappointed that this amazing show was canceled! To be honest, I was practically obsessed with this show and constantly checking to see when it was going to be renewe. I couldn’t wait to see how they portrayed the next exciting series of events in this well kept secret of the bizarre, real life story of sex cult magician and rocket engineer, Jack Parsons. Please pick this up, someone, anyone!!! I am heartbroken learning of this sad news today.
I’m so sorry to discover CBS has cancelled STRANGE ANGEL! It was such a great series. Since its been cancelled I will DEFINITELY research the Parsons /L Ron Hubbard connection!
Thanks Scientology! You used your influence to cancel a great show.
You got that right. They protect L. Ron Hubbard at all cost. Filthy rich fake religion. But hey, someday.
Boy oh boy you nailed it on the head!
There’s no mystery about why. They were about to dramatize the exploits of Parsons and L. Ron. Hubbard with the real details, which the good Church of Scientology would definitely not allow. They most likely weighed in, threatening all sorts of litigation, which they’re famous for. I’m a member of the OTO, by the way, and the NY Lodge loved the show, and we all agreed as to why it was shot down.
