Hawaii Five-0 and Magnum PI are set for their big crossover in January, but fans of Hawaii Five-0 pointed out one big problem. During season three of the CBS reboot, the characters were on a helicopter flying around the island, and Max, played by Masi Oka, started to hum the Magnum PI theme song. The scene then went on with Max appointing Magnum characters to his friends before they all start humming the theme song.
Fans did not forget the brief moment, and Peter M. Lenkov addressed the issue in an interview with TV Line. He said the following:
“We’re going to forget that episode happened. That was at a time when I had lost hope that I could get [my Magnum reboot] launched. I had been trying to do it for so long, I thought there was just no way it was going to happen, so I did a little tribute in that episode. But we’ll take that one out of rotation, now that you’ve brought it up!”
The crossover with Hawaii Five-0 and Magnum PI is set to air on January 3 on CBS. Check out the sequence from season three that is being forgotten below.

My husband and I PVR and then watch both faithfully. They’re 2 of the few shows we find worth watching. A crossover sounds like fun and we’re looking forward to seeing the results!
My husband and I watched both Magnum P.I. shows. They are so different, there is no way to compare the two shows. Both are great. We only watch the current Hawaii 5-0. It is also great. Just because these two shows are current and in Hawaii, doesn’t mean they need a cross-over. It makes better sense to keep them separate and not go back into the past. The only change I would make is to change the times of the shows, putting Hawaii 5-0 sandwiched between Magum P.I. and Blue Bloods. One question, why does CBS think an entire evening… Read more »
Why not go all in and use the Tom Selleck link to have the Reagans (“Blue Bloods”) take a Hawaiian vacation? And naturally, of course, solve a few crimes while they’re there.
As far as ratings go, Magnum is up 5.8 and only one up at this time, and has over 6 million viewers so great job! (Can I get a role now? Lol)
I am excited and curious to see how it comes out! I had auditioned for the ‘baldy’ villian role, but did not perform the audition to meet my full acting potential, and may not have had the look wanted anyway, so I’ll be curious to see who performs that role….not gonna say it didn’t hurt not getting that fantastic role, but greatly appreciated the oportunity to audition! Love the show & all the cast and crew family!
I love the idea! These are the only network shows I watch regularly. They both have terrific ensemble casts and clearly the crossover will be terrific.
I and my 80 yr old mother watch Magnum PI and Hawaii Five-O all the time together, they are 2 of the best shows going. We hope they both get renewed
It’s just a TV show, I will watch it for entertainment value and nothing else.
no i dislike Magnum i tried it watched 2 episodes and stopped a crossover is stupid because most watch one show and not the other so that is ine week i wont be watching hawaii five-o and the first week since Hawaii five-o began the crossovers are a bad idea that is why i stopped watching 2 different shows because they where doing crossovers
I agree. We don’t watch Magnum either so I guess we’ll skip the Hawaii 5-0 episode as well.
I Love Hawaii Five O, and all the cast members. I like Magnum to. And to be honest, I don’t understand why people had a problem with Five O doing the Magnum theme.
I agreed with u. I love the two shows. One looks so serious and the other is a relief for the 1st one. Hawaii five-0 looks tougher. In fact both shows are unique in its own way. Thump up for the Director of both shows

I don’t like Magnum PI but I Hawaii five 0. I may have to stop watch Hawaii five 0 because of the cross over.
These shows are entertainment and nothing else,having been born and raised in Hawaii.I don’t take these shows seriously as they were made to past the time like all forms of entertainment do.Be interesting to see how the crossover storyline unfolds though.
While Mr O’Loughlin Mr Caan &the rest of the team are a beautiful breath of fresh air for the original series, there is was and always will be ONLY ONE MAGNUM PI – TOM SELLECK and John Hillerman Roger Mosley and Larry Manetti – along with Zeus and Apollo were and are an incredible phenomenal inimitable work of art!
I think that the Magnum P.I. is terrible and SHOULD BE cancelled!!! A crossover with Hawaii 50 is NOT a good idea – that Magnum show is killing the ratings on the shows that are on after it – this Magnum is so bad that people change the channel!
I don’t watch Magnum PI and I usually hate crossovers when I don’t watch one of the shows. Hawaii Five-O did it once with one of those NCIS’ shows….I hated it. Watching the continuation on NCIS whatver was painful – I knew none of the characters and didn’t really care to.
