Will a new network and night be a paradise for Thomas, Higgins, and the Magnum PI TV show? As we all know, Nielsen ratings typically play a big role in determining whether a TV show like Magnum PI is cancelled or renewed for season six (an early report indicated NBC had picked up the series for fifth and sixth seasons of 10 episodes each but we now know that it was really for a fifth season of 20 episodes instead). Unfortunately, most of us do not live in Nielsen households. Because many viewers feel frustrated when their viewing habits and opinions aren’t considered, we invite you to rate all of the fifth season episodes of Magnum PI here. *Status Update Below.
An NBC action-adventure drama series, the Magnum PI TV show stars Jay Hernandez, Perdita Weeks, Zachary Knighton, Stephen Hill, Amy Hill, and Tim Kang. This reboot of the 1980s TV show follows Thomas Magnum (Hernandez), a decorated former Navy SEAL who repurposes his military skills to become a private investigator. He lives in a guest cottage on Robin’s Nest, the luxurious estate where he works as a security consultant to supplement his P.I. business. The “majordomo” of the property is Juliet Higgins (Weeks), a beautiful and commanding disavowed MI:6 agent who keeps Magnum in line. When Magnum needs back-up on a job, he turns to his trusted buddies and fellow POW survivors, chopper pilot Theodore “TC” Calvin (Hill) and Orville “Rick” Wright (Knighton), a former Marine door-gunner who now runs a nightclub. Magnum frequently has run-ins with police detective Gordon Katsumoto (Kang) and the two are more alike than either cares to admit. The unofficial “House Mom” and cultural curator of Robin’s Nest, Teuila “Kumu” Tuileta (Hill) is also one of Magnum’s biggest fans.
What do you think? Which season five episodes of the Magnum PI TV series do you rate as wonderful, terrible, or somewhere between? Do you think Magnum PI should be cancelled or renewed for a sixth season on NBC?
*6/24/23 update: Magnum PI has been cancelled by NBC after five seasons.
I love, love, love this show! So glad it’s back! I hope the viewers make sure it stays on the air…it’s just a classic that we need to keep!
The morons who run the network programming are hopeless. CBS let this, the only half descent show, go. NBC wisely (GASP) picked it up! What next….flying pigs LOL?
Glad the show is back. It’s the only reason I pay to stream Peacock
So glad the show is back. On heck of a birthday gift. I think any time slot would get the votes. There’s not much on Sunday nights.
Please DO NOT cancel Magnum, PI. It is better than when Tom Selleck was Magnum. I discovered when I had a occasion to see some of his shows recently. I did not realize how stupid it could be most of the time. The new Magnum is not that way. Please keep it on.
Glad the show is back! Really likable characters!!
Come up with an original idea for a show. No comparison to Tom Selleck show.
I love magnum PI I am so happy NBC picked up the series
I think the ratings would have been better if it was in its old time slot
Glad the show is back, but it didn’t have the edginess of previous seasons. It’s lost something.
The romantic tension between Hernandez and Weeks is gone; now the tension is just about hiding from Amy. Not the same. Seems like most but not all of the same writers are back.
I am sure those things will be corrected by NBC…even though I don’t feel the same as you. It’s still a great ensemble cast with good story lines. I hope you continue to watch.
I don’t think the tension is gone, they just spent the half season pairing them off with other cast members that they weren’t together as much as before. I think they did that because many people asked for it and so they could not do both. I do think that when they did get them in scenes together they gave us some Miggy moments. There just wasn’t enough of them. I also think they didn’t want to overdo the audience where that’s all it became. I think in time they would get more scenes together and we will see more.… Read more »
