An ABC comedy series based on a BBC format, When Nature Calls with Helen Mirren is a documentary examination of the animal kingdom that looks at the lighter side of the natural world. Narrated by Mirren, the show features comedians putting words into the mouths of beautiful beasts, teeny-tiny frogs, beatboxing badgers, and more in beautiful footage from all over the world. Comedic scenarios include a field mouse who is killing it with NFTs, a divorced bear gym teacher whose students have heard gossip about his private life, a dragonfly movie star who can’t take direction, a beetle named Tony with anger management issues, a supermodel lemur, a thousand-year-old fairy fish trying to find someone who wants to make a wish, the new hit game show “Wolf or Rock”, and a crab who writes erotic fiction.

I adore Helen Mirren, and was thrilled to see this new show coming out! But, OMG!! I was expecting a nature show, with a bit of humor thrown in by the hostess, based on funny animal behavior. This show is childish, overrun with terrible jokes, and the human voices dubbed in for the animals are way too corny! It’s only saving grace is Dame Helen Mirren’s lovely voice (yes, I realize some of the dubbed voices belong to her) and the beautiful scenery!! It needs to be upgraded or cancelled!! Such a waste of Mirren’s talent. Very sad!
Watched with my 9 yr old grandson & had to apologize for the crude references after explaining what some shows will do in order to make money. The photography, the animals are absolutely beautiful and Helen Mirren definitely lowered her standards with the innuendo’s. I thought the show was going to be so much more. I think we’ll continue to watch…. without the volume.
NOPE! – waiting for an apology from Helen.
OMG! Seriously? Is this an example of the lame replacements we can expect? This kind of garbage will never replace all the excellent shows we all loved, that have been cancelled? If so then I will be cancelling my Cable Service. UGH 🙁
Language that had to be bleeped out and sexual references such as a tigers vibrator was just ridiculous. Beautiful world depicted would love to have shared with my grandchildern to educate them to want to save these animals. Very disappointed, just turned it to trash.
I guess this gives us normal folks an idea of what some “famous” people will do for money. Typical trash being passed off as comedy on network TV. At least they resisted the need to add a laugh track to remind the audience when the dialogue is supposed to be funny. Any use of the laugh track should be banned from TV shows.
Where I live there has only been 1 show !
I loved it !!!!
Nope. 20 mins in we had to turn it off. Too bad because I loved the photography. Definitely could have done without the “comedic” voices… terrible insult to the animals.
Great photography but the improving human voices is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. Could not stomach watching it. Do not renew another season.
Photography wonderful. Dialog abysmal. Jokes not very funny. Anthropomorphism just plain stupid.
The dialog is a good idea, but the writing is awful. It’s raunchy and doesn’t make any sense. The dialog should at least pertain to the animals…sex toys and book writing… what’s the point?
Overall I love the show I love the concept I love the voices I loved the cinematography everything is fantastic except for one thing. If you’re going to do a nature show then you have to get the science right. Animals were referred to incorrectly throughout, for example a gelada was referred to as a baboon and it is not. This is a fantastic opportunity to provide an education and amuse an audience let’s be responsible with that power.
I really enjoyed seeing the beautiful scenery and all the animals but the rest…The animals talking, and some of the comments I can do without (kind of stupid). I’d rather see the animals doing funny things on the own and caught on camera.
perverted and garbage filth like most junk on tv today.
There are good things about it but the inappropriate jokes, the bleeping, and the mating scenes ruin the whole thing. There should be a warning that says warning…crude dialogue and images not suitable for children. Images I would like to erase from my mind, that make me never want to watch it again. I’m glad my Son wasn’t watching with me. How do parents explain this to their children? It’s prime time, but this should be on a cable channel. Networks have let a lot of trash be shown that is a bad influence on young minds. Bad for my… Read more »
I totally agree with you. I love nature, but this ruined it for me.
