CBS made some difficult decisions when it came to cancellations this season. MacGyver, All Rise, The Unicorn, and NCIS: New Orleans have ended or will end this month, and Kelly Kahl, the president of CBS Entertainment, spoke about what went into the decisions to cancel all four shows, per Deadline.
MacGyver and NCIS: New Orleans (which airs its finale this weekend) have both aired on CBS for several seasons, and fans were surprised when the news broke about their cancellations. Kahl said the following:
“Every year you evaluate what is making the strongest statement for your schedule and what gives you the best circulation, what will bring you the most numbers of viewers. You ask that question for pretty much every show every year, how can we make the schedule as strong as we can in the fall, and that leads to some tough decisions. MacGyver has been an excellent show for us, New Orleans was an excellent show for us. But sometime shows hit the end of their cycle and we have to, in some cases, say goodbye.”
As for All Rise and The Unicorn, both aired for two seasons on the network. Kahl said the following about their cancellations:
“We creatively love both shows, it’s literally a numbers game on the schedule, and it’s a number game when it typically comes to getting a renewal. I think these shows were not living up to the potential in terms of an audience that we hoped to see in their respective time slots.”
What do you think? Did you want to watch more of these four TV shows on CBS? Which cancellation surprised you or upset you the most?
All Rise, Macgyver, NCIS NewOrleans not to mention MOM too. Loved them and can’t believe all these favs were cancelled.
What a bunch of idiots, I can’t believe All Rise was canceled one of my favorite shows along with MacGyver an NCIS New Orleans maybe searching for a different network
I am extremely disappointed with the cancelation of, “All Rise”, I do not believe this was due to numbers. I thoroughly enjoyed this show! I hope another networl will pick them up.
Guess it’s finally time to start watching more ABC and NBC!
CBS sucks!
All Rise is one of the best dramas I have seen in a long time. The cast of actors and guest stars are phenomenal. I strongly feel CBS should reconsider canceling this well-written show and try placing it in a different time slot, and day.
Enjoyed the show. Everyone’s loss. The girl prefer also show a proportion of whatever issues are going on as really goes on in the real life and that I’m referring to sexual and race representations currently I think somethings are over represented in almost all television shows. On that they need to get real
Shame on CBS for canceling All Rise! This is a great show that should be given a chance. If there is another network out there willing to pick this show up, please do so. Its fans would love you for it.
Well to be frankly speaking the shell stunk. But that doesn’t make sense to bring it back on another network. It’s just a waste. CBS network just stinks these days
Looked forward to watching All Rise and NCIS NO each week. What a shame. Loved McGyver before this last season. Didn’t care for this season though. I’ve felt the writers had changed.
I do not believe CBS knows what they are doing. Canceling All Rise and NCIS NO is a major mistake. These are awesome shows. Another station should take over these shows. Shame on CBS.
I loved All Rise. Why cancel this show? Why not sell to Netflix or ABC? CBS hasn’t any clue what viewers like. This entire year has not been a very good gauge for tv viewership. Sorry to see it go.
NCIS NO is a great show. I disagree on the cancellation.
Please know i am highly unhappy about all rise ,macgyver, and ncis new orleans being canceled ive been a fan since day one
Just finished watching All Rise last episode. Well GOODBYE CBS, it was nice the only reason I watched was for All Rise and NCIS:NO. Why NO the other NCIS’s have run their course. All Rise I loved it, great characters, non violent and realistic storylines. Since this is not a normal world today normal criteria should not apply when considering cancellation of a show.
All Rise was great from the start. The other cancelled shows are good, but not in the class of AR. Sad move.
