A CBS crime drama, Magnum PI stars Jay Hernandez, Perdita Weeks, Zachary Knighton, Stephen Hill, Tim Kang, and Amy Hill. The mystery thriller centers on former Navy SEAL Thomas Magnum (Hernandez), who is back from Afghanistan and working as a private investigator. Magnum lives in a guest cottage on the Robin’s Nest estate in Oahu, where he also serves as a security consultant. With his team at the ready, a vintage Ferrari at his disposal, and his trademark aviator sunglasses, Magnum is always ready to crack the next case.
The series launched in September to a 1.16 in the 18-49 demographic with 8.12 million viewers. The numbers have fallen quite a bit since then and the 13 episodes have averaged a 0.96 in the demo with 6.07 million. Compared to the 21 scripted CBS shows, Magnum PI ranks ninth in the demo and has done significantly better in the timeslot than last year’s occupants (cancelled sitcoms like Kevin Can Wait, Superior Donuts, 9JKL, and Living Biblically).
CBS also renewed two other freshman shows – FBI and The Neighborhood — for the 2019-20 season. “Each of these distinctive shows has made their mark in a variety of ways,” said Kelly Kahl, President, CBS Entertainment. “Our goals this season were to introduce new series that audiences are passionate about, add more strength to a winning schedule and create more inclusive programming.” Thom Sherman, Senior Executive Vice President of Programming added, “We’re thrilled by the creative direction and performance of these three shows as they continue to grow in popularity and resonate with the Network’s viewers.”
The network has not renewed Sunday’s God Friended Me for a second season yet but a renewal is expected. Renewals of Happy Together and Murphy Brown are seen as more of a longshot.

REALLY happy that Magnum PI has been renewed. Hoping they will promote the show with some creative, well edited spots showcasing the cast and also consider a 2nd play (replay) of each week’s episode on Saturday night- when there is little on and new viewers could be captured.
Ive actually enjoyed the show a lot. I was skeptical at first but gave it a chance and I’m glad I did. It’s not the original by any means but it holds its own. The characters are starting to mesh and it’s a good hour escape like the original. I think of it as a reimagined version of Magnum which makes it fun. The original is still the best but this one is good too. The scenery, cars the helicopter and of course the Lads. Well worth it. Looking forward to more seasons.
I have really gotten to like this show, have gotten used to the new characters, a little different from the old version, but great.

My husband and I were skeptical initially. However, we’ve been converted. I’m glad the show was renewed. We’ll be looking forward to season two and how the chemistry with Magnum and Higgins goes moving forward. We were disappointed to find season one (1) is complete.

I believe the new Magnum is super! I hope it continues for many seasons. Selleck was excellent (dates me – lol) and Hernandez is too. The show is refreshing and gives an uplifting feeling since Magnum and his buddies, Rick and TC, and the new beautiful Higgins are good people/characters and help those who need help and pull it off well. The stories are different and each interesting. The characters get along and work well together. Love it. Both main characters play well off each other. I will continue to watch as long as channel 2 does not throw their liberal views down my throat like they do on most of their shows.

I really enjoy Magnum PI. I gave it a shot at first – now I look forward to the show. Love the characters and they work well together. Glad CBS is renewing this show. Look forward to more interesting challenges for Magnum. The actor does a terrific job as Magnum.

I think people need to take it at face value for what it is….a good show. If you compare it to the original, of course you wont like it…it has many different aspects and usually people are not fans of change. They set out to redo the story line,but kept a few things the same…that’s awesome! Jay Hernandez never set out to replace Tom Selleck, its seriously impossible,but he set out to make this his own. I love this show,and am soooooo glad to see it was renewed!

I watch original didn’t even live that era young men now. I just don’t like new one only Hawaii five-0, Macgver copy same ones writer are really good are favorite shows. Should cancel please renewed MacGyver and Happy Together Damon Dwayne son so funny on before it.
