The game is over. ABC has reportedly cancelled The Hustler TV series so there won’t be a third season.
A trivia game show, The Hustler TV series is hosted by Craig Ferguson. Each episode of the show follows five contestants as they collaborate to correctly answer a series of 10 trivia questions that are worth $10,000 each. Their goal is to build the amount of money in a collective prize pot that grows with each correct answer. The catch is that one of the five contestants, aka the Hustler, already knows the correct answers because of their personal experiences or interests. Throughout each episode, two contestants are anonymously eliminated by the Hustler. The remaining three players must collectively decide which one of them is the secret Hustler. If the two regular contestants are correct, they split the prize pot that could be worth over $100,000. If the two are wrong, the Hustler takes home the full cash reward.
Airing on Thursday nights, the second season of The Hustler averages a 0.29 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.74 million viewers in the live+same day ratings (includes all DVR playback through 3:00 AM). Compared to season one, that’s down by 44% in the demo and down by 40% in viewership in the live+same day ratings (including DVR playback through 3:00 AM).
The show aired for 19 episodes across two seasons, both during the 2020-21 television season. Season two was one of the lowest-rated ABC shows last summer. Variety was the first to report the cancellation.

Cancelled another great show. So sad that all the good shows are taken off the air. My husband and I loved The Hustler.
Why would you cancel an excellent show? We loved The Hustler!! Why do you cancel the best shows so we can turn our TV off for the other junk?
Why do we even bother to watch new television. I really like the hustler and can’t believe it isn’t coming back. I am getting to hate watching newer shows.
My husband and I miss this show terribly. We are both surprised and somewhat angry that it has been canceled. It was so clever and Craig Ferguson so amusing. Even the staging of the room is so enjoyable. Come on ABC, bring this back. What wonderful thing did ABC put in it’s place? Yeah, that’s what I thought……nothing.

As I was referring someone to this show, I Googled it for the Season 3 start date and was so disappointed to see that ABC cancelled this! This was the best game show out there. What a waste. It was so clever and Craig was so fun. Way to go ABC.
Enjoyed everything about The Hustler, and knew while I was watching that it was too bright, witty, and fluid to last long on cookie-cutter network television. I hope there’s some chance it goes into independent production, maybe for a streaming service or syndication. Well done, Craig and crew!
Soooooo disappointed the Hustler was canceled. It was fun, imaginative, and thoughtful. And host Craig Ferguson was very entertaining. Doesn’t ABC execs know people love a mystery? Hope they reconsider and it returns soon.

ABC, PLEASE reconsider. Great, clever show! I can’t think of a better game show on TV than The Hustler! It kept my attention. Brought me back to the good ‘ole days of playing the boardgame, Clue. LOVE the set design! Great suspenseful music, too. Really looked forward to watching The Hustler. I have been wondering and looking out for the show. So bummed to read this!
