Stephen J. Cannell tribute on CastleAs TV fans are well aware, legendary TV producer and writer Stephen J. Cannell passed away last week at the age of 69.

Not only was he responsible for creating or co-creating such shows as The Rockford Files, The Greatest American Hero, The A-Team, Wiseguy, 21 Jump Street, Silk Stalkings, and The Commish, but he also occasionally appeared on-screen as a performer. Most recently, he’s played himself on Castle.

The ABC show paid tribute to Cannell on Monday night and, quite appropriately, used footage from his production company tag that always appeared at the end of his shows.

The Greatest American Hero

Returning from a field trip late one night, high school teacher Ralph Hinkley (William Katt) and his class of remedial students become stranded on a desert road when their bus breaks down. As Ralph walks to get help, he's almost run down by a car driven by old-school FBI Special Agent Bill Maxwell (Robert Culp). While the arrogant agent is insisting that he couldn't control the vehicle, two bright purple lights come out of the sky and a spaceship appears. The auto is under the aliens' control and they speak to the pair via the car radio.
