charles durningVeteran character actor Charles Durning died on Christmas Eve at the age of 89. He passed away at his home in New York City of natural causes.

Durning was drafted at age 21 and served in the Army in World War II. He participated in the Normandy Invasion of France on D-Day and was awarded the Silver Star and three Purple Heart medals.

He had a long and varied acting career, playing a myriad characters on stage, in movies, and in television series and specials. For the latter, he earned nine Emmy nominations.

The poster for the Sex and the City movie has been released. Does Joshua Malina think that Big Shots is finished? The Power of 10 is pulled but Drew Carey is returning to primetime anyway. A new book on Jim Henson's Fraggle Rock is on the way. The writers strike may be good for Battlestar Galactica fans. Burt Reynolds will give an Evening Shade co-star an award and, The Bob Newhart Show's Suzanne Pleshette is put to rest.

Former professional football player Woodrow "Wood" Newton (Burt Reynolds) returns to Evening Shade, Arkansas to coach the Mules, his old high school football team that's been on two-year losing streak. Wood's wife Ava Evans Newton (Marilu Henner) is the town's prosecuting attorney and together, they raise their four children; Taylor (Jay R. Ferguson), Molly Newton (Melissa Renee Martin, later Candace Hutson), Will (Jacob Parker), and Emily (Alexa Vega).
