The Best Written TV Series Is…?

Top TV showsThe members of the Writers Guild of America were asked to vote online for the best written TV series in history. The organization tallied a list of 101 shows and David Chase’s HBO drama, The Sopranos, came out on top.

It’s worth noting that the list contains a few titles that most consider to be mini-series, not TV shows — like Roots and I, Claudius.

In the small North Carolina town of Mayberry, widower Andy Taylor (Andy Griffith) divides his time between his duties as sheriff and raising his young son, Opie (Ron Howard). Andy's Aunt Bee (Frances Bavier) lives with the Taylors to help raise Opie and his incompetent cousin, Barney Fife (Don Knotts), is the deputy sheriff. Colorful town residents include mechanic Gomer Pyle (Jim Nabors), filling station attendant Goober Pyle (George Lindsey), barber Floyd Lawson (Howard McNear), school teacher Helen Crump (Aneta Corsaut), County Clerk Howard Sprague (Jack Dodson), and town drunk Otis Campbell (Hal Smith).
